Help avoiding a scan in my Anaconda

I just replied to a thread regarding Passenger missions - and I am one of many that did not look at the passenger mission brief clearly enough. My fault - so my Anaconda was toasted after being scanned. Will learn from it - the 8 million re-buy should make me learn quickly.

I am sure it has posted before, a lot of the posts are based on older versions.

Can anyone offer some good advice to avoid scanning on station entry, I am not getting on great with silent running and more often
than not find the speed entry leading to me being squashed inside the station slot.

Silent running and using heatsinks does not seem to be helping much at all.

Thanks

Heat sinks and chaff at about 5km out and repeat again as you enter the slot if you can.

Unfortunately Silent Running is the best option to avoid being scanned.
I'd recommend practicing this using a smaller ship smuggling some illegal cargo until you get the hang of it.

This video may help. It also demonstrates a good Interdiction Evasion as well.

Heat sinks do the same w/o messing with silent running, I've never had an issue and it still works. I've used it on all the big ships inc. the Cutter.
Also if you run some legit trade runs into that station for a while and it go goes green (allied) they don't seem to scan friendly ships so you could switch back to illegal goods.

If you're hauling illicit cargo you will almost certainly be scanned, less likely if you obey the speed limit, but still probable.

The speed entry is the best entry. Line up from a long way out, from SC if possible. [Boost] to hit max speed 3km from slot, and [min throttle] before you enter the cattle grid.

As I am boosting towards the cattle grid, just before I go through, I deploy the landing gear and cargo scoop
for additional braking .

Silent running reduces the likelihood of you getting scanned. Once a scan has started silent running is useless. Heat sinks allow you to dump the heat you've built up from using silent running. They have no effect on a scan.

Learn to dock fast, you should be on the deck about 50-60 seconds from the 7.5km mark - from any approach angle.

The anaconda requires a bit more... Finesse, than most ships, but you should be boosting up until about 2km form the cage, at which point, reverse thrust and drop the gear you should be in the station within about 30-40 seconds once you get the hang of it.

For me, every approach is a hot docking approach, regardless of whether I'm smuggling or not, it keeps the skills up.

Remember, when you are notified of a scan, you still have about 10 seconds, that is plenty of time in most case. take a deep breath, relax, and be a leaf in the wind. Once you pass the letterbox, you're clear, the scans stop once you are int he station.

I've never used silent running for docking, I use exclusively hot docking. I've never been scanned.

Anacondas and other large ships are scan magnets. On top of that its slow, if cops start to scan you and your not already entering the mailslot you'll never escape the scan.

Your best options are:

1 - To use a smaller, nimbler ship for passengers which require not being scanned.
2 - Avoid passengers who require not being scanned while flying the Anaconda or similar large ship.
3 - Practice silent running without passengers until your confortable with it. Mind that silent running is not a cloaking device, if cops come too near you they will find you anyway and scan you, you need to watch where they are t maintain distance.

Something I would suggest to reduce the possibility of being scanned (you could still be scanned, but this helps lower that chance) is to stay about 10KM out from the station, and manoeuvre until the mail slot side is directly facing you. Now head straight in, and at about 5KM out request docking clearance (so that you don't forget if a scan starts, and you boost in!). Keep your cool, be ready to deploy chaff if needed and to boost, and you should be ok.

The reason this usually works is that the Authority ships tend to orbit the station around its rotational axis. This means that you should have a narrow window of opportunity to get through the slot.

Chaff doesn't stop scans. Neither does popping a heat sink. Just sayin'.

The Scanner we have in our ships is not a 'Radar' but a heat sensor. It detects other ships via their heat signature. So the lower you signature the less likely you are to show up on Security Scanners, so Popping Heat sinks keeps you cool they will work. Going into Silent Running reduces your signature even more and using heat sinks whilst SR stops your ship from doing a boil in the bag.

Of course nothing defers the Mark One Eyeball and if an Security NPC see you with his/her NPC eyeball, the chance is very high your gonna get scanned no matter what you do. The bigger the ship, the bigger the worse chance you have of avoiding the Mk1 EB.

So from a Cmdr who has made a livin out of Smuggling, Heat sinks do help, Silent Running and Heat Sinks are your best bet.

I found the docking computer quite helpful for smuggling in big ships. Just make sure you exit SC coming from the side facing the celestial so you're properly aligned, reduce throttle to zero when passing the slot, thrust away from the center to avoid hitting the stations central spike until it takes over and let the DC do the rest.

Just make sure to have somewhat decent shields as you'll likely experience some bumps here and there. Never got scanned or lost a ship that way and did most of my smuggling using an Anaconda. Switching to a Cutter might also help as it allows for faster speeds, but the Anaconda is just fine.

Of course it can be done manually just as well, but the DC does a very good job at reliably stopping and landing the ship once inside the station.

So far I have evaded scanning in the Anaconda when I needed to.

I found the best solution is to get aligned at about 7 km from the slot, and boost. At 5 km boost again then instantly hit silent running. This buys you enough heat margin to make docking without rushing.

Before going for The Run(TM), disable all non-essential items, include shield boosters. If it isn't needed for landing, disable it. It keeps the heat very low, and gives you lots of margin. The shield is automatically disabled with silent running.

My best advice is to use a smaller ship. Sorry to be un helpful but... your flying a huge truck of a thing, they can clock you visually and then get into close range to scan silent running or not.

But there are ways to do it as you can see from the helpful guys on here who manage it.

Just get grade 5 dirties and boost boost boost.

I wouldn't consider them a necessity at all (Don't have any as I cba to grind for them). An unmodded Anaconda with A thusters works just fine, besides the OP mentioned he has troubles doing the high speed approach.
