Newcomer / Intro Help Configuring Ship

Is there anything out there to help you select upgrades to your ship and show what effect the upgrade will have on speed, turn, jump distance, etc.?
Seems like there are a whole lot of variables effected by changes to components like armor or FSD. Some kind of spreadsheet would be helpful.

Just some General advice.....Weapons should be low on your priority for ship upgrades. Sure go ahead and swap the stock lasers out if you want but Power Plant, Power Distributor, Shields and Thrusters are what you want to upgrade first.
Also, power is your limiting factor to keep you from just slapping the best of everything on a ship. You have to make choices according to what you want the ship to be able to do best. When you get new parts and configure your priorities, deploy your fire control groups as soon as you leave the star port so there'll be no nasty surprises when you enter combat, or mining or whatever.
