HELP! Custom Resolution no longer showing in game after update to RTX 3070

Hi CMDR's

Have recently upgraded my 1070 to a 3070 and can no longer run Elite Dangerous in 7680 x 1440 in a window, across my 3 screens. Really can not figure out what's wrong or different? Really hope somebody can help, or at least point me in the direction of a solution!

Full description.

Have been running Elite Dangerous in windowed 7680 x 1440 across 3 screens for about 8 months with no issues. (See Video). The way I do this is to run a custom resolution of 1440 on two 1080p side monitors (Iiyama 27" G-Master Black Hawks). Then add a custom resolution to my centre monitor (ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278QR) of 7680 x1440. Then simply select in game 7680 x 1440 in windowed mode. All Monitors are on DisplayPort. Its the only game I use the triples for as everything else is played single screen.

Nvidia Surround is not an option as even with CRU my centre monitor don't play nice, often resetting to lower resolutions or borders after restart

Since installing the 3070 with completely fresh driver install. I can still set the custom resolutions, but while if I move the ED to a side monitor it recognises the custom 1440 in game. On the centre monitor there is no option for the 7680x1440 as like before.

Things I have tried

Have rolled back to earliest RTX driver.
Installed latest RTX driver.
Reinstalled windows 10.
Tried to see if it was just ED, but its all games.
Have put the resolution in the graphics xml of ED and it displays across all screens for a second, then resets to 2560x1440 single screen.

Please, has anybody a solution or experienced this?

Really at my wits end and lost a whole weekend trying to sort it!

Does Windows recognize the monitors or is it showing them a generic? When I was running 3 monitors I had to select the correct monitor to get it to work.

Installing a new GPU will usually wipe your previous custom resolution options.

Did you try adding the custom resolution with CRU or the NVIDIA driver control panel? It doesn't actually need to work, it just needs to exist for the game to accept it as a windowed resolution.

Hi guys.

Drivers for monitors are installed. Using NVIDIA driver control panel i can add the custom resolutions as before. ED will recognise the custom 1440 on the sides, but once sent back to the centre monitor the option 7680x1440 doesn't appear, only the native 1440p on the Asus.

Like i have said i have had this working like this for 8 months.

Am just wondering has Nivida or something changed in windows that is now stopping you using outsized resolutions by reading the EDID of the monitor?
Or possibly the auto settings for the custom 7680x1440 are not correct so its not even being offered as a resolution in game?

@Morbad Have considered CRU and have used it for the 1440 on the two Blackhawks (Sides) previously to try and get surround to work (Failure as it resets on reboot). But to add 7680x1440 to the Asus you have to use the extension block, from the instructions by ToastyX and that is a bit beyond me at the moment.

Nice!
But how?
Had to go the NVidia surround path!
Used CRU to add a 1080 resolution to my Asus.
Then activated surround at 5760x1080
Then used windows display manager to go 7680x1440
It means I have to pull the display port on the Asus and reboot otherwise after reboot its 3072x768.
But I can live with that for now as its only Elite I play triple.

Conclusion with all my fiddling!
RTX GPU scaling is broken! Tried on my wife's PC and while its 1440 screen. A custom resolution of 5670x1080 will scale on her display like it used to with
my 1070. I only get a black screen on my 3070! Hopefully it gets fixed before Odyssey as even at 7680x1440 should scale on a 1440 screen. It would just looked really crushed, but you should still see it like on my 1070.

SOLUTION!!!

Finally solved the issue of running a window across the 3 screens like i did before the 3070!

Just add the custom resolution using CRU (Custom Resolution Utility)

1. Add a new extension block on centre monitor - DisplayID
2. Add a new detailed Resolution of 7680 x1440p
3. Start Elite, set to window mode, then select 7680 x 1440p
