Help Facetracknoir stopped working?

I've been playing around with facetracknoir and I HAD it working in game, but in the process of fine tuning it it stopped working in game? It still shows it's working in the program preview, but when I fire up Elite it won't work, any ideas from anyone using it? I have it set to use freetrack and have it showing trackir to game and hide freetrack. And I'm using facetrack.

Right, I can't help you, I'm just curious as all get-out. *What* is "Facetracknoir"??????

Headtracking with your FACE. It uses any normal webcam and as long as you have some lighting on your face without heavy shadows, it can provide headtracking by tracking the features on your face. It also has the option to track LEDs and IMU's. Its also free.

and the guy's icon on the top left corner is moving and displaying data?

What game protocol have you got it set to? Also, you can set a hotkey to pause tracking, make sure you haven't hit that. One more thing, I find if I restart ED then I have to restart FTNIR also.

Want to post your INI file , tried facetracknoir the tweaks I used didn't improve the experience

I've had times that it doesn't start up properly.

I've found that the tracking needs to be running before launching ED. So, if it's not working, try closing both programs, start tracking, then once it's running, start ED.

FaceTrackNoIR perf degrades over time, i need to quit the game and the software to get it working again most of the times.

Thanks all for the help, yes the little man icon moves and displays data I've tried a few times to shut it down and restart everything even rebooted the computer and still nothing in game. It's funny because it was working when I first installed it, then I was going in and out to tweak the curves then it stopped. I will send a copy of my .ini file when I get home from work, I'm hoping it's something simple I turned on or off that I'm not seeing.

Build yourself an IR clip or cap, hell even buy one, delan clip seems decent, even natural points proclip works with facetracknoir.

Use the point tracking protocol the difference is night and day.

Depending on how resourceful you are you can build yourself a clip for a few £
The only mod i had to make to my webcam was a piece of developed camera film over the lens to filter out normal light, it only see's the ir's from my clip whatever the lighting is like in the room.

I have no suggestions for getting to work again, but having watched your video you seem to be moving your head waaay past the screen edges then moving your eyes back to see the screen.
You should calculate the angle you gave to move your head from max-left to max-right and also max-up to max-down, these are your 'input' angles.
Then do the same 'in-game' for the maximum you require to turn.
In other words RL_left_17deg = IG_left_90deg etc then clip the curves at the edge.
Here are my single screen curves for ED
ftnoir_curves.jpg
Will make it much less neck-ache inducing and enable you to always have eyes on screen.
(Obviouly for triple monitors the 'inputs' for left-right are larger but the 'outputs' remain the same)

No I'm at work hopefully tonight when I get home, I may uninstall and reinstall Facetracknoir and start from scratch to see if that helps.

Yes I have it set to use Freetrack, Like I said it was working then it stopped very weird. One question though is there anything in the Elite game settings that could keep it from working? I shut off mouse headlook originally but I wasn't sure if it was necessary to do that.

No, the game options don't touch it. What FT options have you been playing with? Just the curves, or did you go into the api settings too?

AFAIK Elite just needs to be running, no options are required in elite to make OpenTrack/FaceTrackNoIR/Freetrack/TrackIR work. I had a lot of problems with flickering frames but that was resolved by replacing the newest supported games file somewhere in the FaceTrackNoIR directory...

Also, if you have the DIY chops or are willing to spend a little on an IR clip - do so immediately. You'll get much better tracking from a clip compared to the facial recognition. At least that's my experience - being a bit beardy (bumf) and having glasses seems to confuse it sometimes ...and get a PS3Eye camera for the framerates. Another ~£10 or so and it makes the world of difference, imho.

Mostly just the curves but I did go into just about everything to check it out, but I don't believe I changed anything (but I might have idk) I think my best bet is a reinstall.

Ok thanks! yeah I wanted to try it out first to see if I would like it since it's free, then I thought I could invest in making an IR clip later.
