Elite / Frontier Help Finding Old 1984 Elite

Hey all. I’m in the process of refurbishing an old Amstrad PC 1512SD that I dug out of an open air crawlspace after some 20 years. Project is going well but once it’s done I’d like to fire up Elite on it. It would be the 5.25” floppy version compatible with the Amstrad. I can find plenty of Frontier Elite II copies but the original seems to be elusive. Tried Ebay and whatnot but no dice. Anyone know of a good source for games like that other than eBay?

Any originals are quite likely unreadable after this long. Might be best to look into copying a disk image of the game onto a fresh floppy.

Okay I will look into doing that :) getting close to doing a smoke test on the computer but I imagine the original 20Mb Hard Card is gonna be a no go. If that’s the case I’ll probably go with one of those ISA to SD adapters to replace it with. Should make getting a disk image onto the drive easier if that’s the case. I do have “New” (20+ year old) floppies around. If I have to go that route maybe I’ll just put the image on the SD and mock up a fake 5.25” floppy to leave around the PC to complete the look :)

Would you happen to know where I could find a PC (DOS 3.1) disk image? I see you can download one from Frontier for the BBC micro but idk if that’ll run on a PC compatible machine.

If I were you I'd log a support ticket with the helpdesk and ask them if they could provide you with the image.....given all the orignal files are free now I can't see any reason they wouldn't.

Dual processor/Tube version for me, thanks.

Though if you ask Ian Bell he recommends the NES port.
I believe the download image includes tube elite, though I may be misremembering. Of course I preferred Arch Elite, but that was a bit later.
