help for an idiot who can't hyperjump !

i just can't seem to work out what i am doing :)
when i try to jump i select my target system from the galaxy map,engage jump then end up doing an emergency stop as i am heading right into the systems star.
how do i select the station i want to jump to ?
also i can't disengage super cruise either,when i hit c nothing happens ?

please help this rookie commander.

Supercruise and hyperspace jump are both on the same key now, using J.

If you have a system targeted, you'll hyperspace. If you have a planet or station selected you'll supercruise.

It takes some practice :)

Yes, when you come out of hyperspace you'll be more or less facing the target star, reason being is it's the mass of that star that gets you out of hyperspace (or at least the fiction is something like that).

So, turn away from it straight away.

Open up the left navigation panel, scroll through to find a space station (there's only at most one per system still it seems), then the space-compass (top-right of scanner) will be pointing at it, so supercruise over to it. Disengage that once it says "Safe Disengage Ready", for which you'll want to be going only about 200km/s when you go under 1000km from the target.

many many thanks guys much appreciated.

just done my first successful jump but was destroyed by another player before i reached dock :(

too many interdictions
