Help from experiences explorers on when to turn back

Hello there,

I'm about 75% on reaching the bright center. Nothing by much of the explorers I see here but my furthest yet.

My ASP is at 93% because yours truly here  didn't pay attention when he should have done and did about 3 or 4 emergency stops. I have one Maintenance Unit that is about half way used up.

I know there's no definite answer, but would you turn back now or keep going?

For this trip I just wanted to reach the middle. I know I need to kit out the ship better before attempting to go further.

Thank you for any replies. [up]

If you learn your lessons - ie. Pay attention - you'll be fine.

My first long range trip, I was down to about 91% at Sag A*. I flew at least another 210k LY before arriving back in the bubble, and finished with about 89%.

Pay attention, learn from your mistakes, and all will be fine.

i have a easy rule for myself. turn around when hull or powerplant is below 50% ... i never reached that.

i normally have the most damage in the first third of a tour.

if you are heavily damaged, fly more safe (no landing, throttle down to zero while jumping etc.). but you are far from that point.

i dont have an AMFU, i wouldn't turn back, just be careful :)

when your powerplant gets near 50% then its time to come back :)

I'm also on my way to Sag A and am about 5000LY away.
For most of the trip I've been on 74% hull due to a foolish drunken shieldless planetary landing I attempted early on in my trip.
I have no AFMUs and no heatsinks, but I learned my lesson from the above and haven't taken any further damage since.

As long as you're sensible, you'll be fine. :)

I didn't know that!!! I don' have an SRV... but I'm leaning towards going back to get one. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you

At 93% damage I'd keep going, Commander. Yeah you've made some mistakes, but like others have suggested you learn from them and try not to repeat them in the future. If your hull was at 53% or so then I would say turn back, but that Asp has a lot of life left in her 😎

93% is fine, some people go all the way to Beagle Point with less.

Long distances really do teach you how to handle your ship better. You'll have learned more than you know on your trip so far.
