Help Getting to baron from no rank

Hi everyone,

I am an xbox one player. I'm not sure how many people here play on the xbox.

I would like to have good knowledge of where to go for getting Baron rank in the Empire.

I started playing this game about 3 weeks ago.

I am currently in Wu Guinagi. I want to get an imperial Clipper. I only see mining missions with the empire in this system other than passenger missions.

I have Viper, an Eagle and a type 6 transport. I was reading somewhere that after patch 2.4, a lot of missions in this system are nerfed.

I would like to also know if going to Quince is worth it before going on that long trip.

It is not, nor is going to Rhea, or any other system that once allowed users to fast-track to the higher tier ships. You're going to have to do the work to earn the rank.
Additionally, the stacking of missions by logging off and on and off and on and loading up on Massacre or Planetary Scan missions has also been addressed, and this is also no longer a viable way to fast-track to upper tier ships.

But do not despair, as it is still possible to gain rank to unlock access to these ships simply by doing missions for Imperial factions. You'll know these factions as they carry the Imperial logo (a bird-like design) on the mission descriptions. Your early ranks will come fast simply by completing missions for factions offering them. Missions to transport Data and missions to donate Credits are the quickest route, as Data takes no cargo space to carry, and these missions typically only require traveling to one system, usually nearby.

Donations do not require any travel, and can be taken and completed all from the Station Services menu - they simply cost credits, so as long as you have the credits, you can "buy" your way up the rankings.

The best systems I have found for making rank with any Super Power have all been "fringe" systems - that is, systems on the edge of the bubble, as they typically only have 1 station, or 2 stations, and generate missions to and from other "fringe" systems nearby. When you do get the rank to Unlock systems like Achenar, this is a very good place to take missions, as all the factions in Achenar are Imperial factions, which means every mission you take there will gain you Imperial rank.

Head to Mainani. It's mostly data missions to one station which also offers data missions back to Mainani. You will fill up to full mission capacity without board flipping.

currently, the fastest way to "grind" rank are probably stations attacked by thargoids.

they offer an endless stream of passenger transport mission with just a few ls travel distance

Are there any right now? Last I looked the six stations that had been attacked were undergoing repairs.

While it's true the data delivery missions do not require hauling cargo, some do have a requirement for cargo space to actually turn the missions in. It's important to remember this when you select your ship of choice for mission hauling. Keep as much cargo space as possible. If you take a mission hauling something, make sure you turn that mission in prior to turning in the missions that offer commodities.

Everything desirable in this game is going to be a time sink. I'd find something I like doing and do that instead of grinding for rank. For example, you can find some stations on the edge of the bubble in systems that have missions hauling biowaste. You can stack these, make money and gain rank at the same time as you build faction rep. You can often camp on a spot like that for quite some time. With a large enough ship, you can max out your missions (think mission total of 20, not money or tonnage, since your main goal is rank - more missions = faster ranking). I take the lower tonnage missions first to get 10 or 15 missions, then I'll top it off with the high paying ones.

+1 to what schmuck said. If you are in a rush to get a clipper, it may feel painful. And once you've rushed to get it, will you have the extra 100million+ credits to properly kit it out? Will you have unlocked all (or enough) engineers to boost it?

I started the 'empire grind' a week after ED came out for PS4 - still not there yet, but close. Even if I could unlock it, I couldn't afford to A-rate it, but I have unlocked almost all the engineers to G5. My anti-grind sanity solution has been what some others have suggested... do other stuff, CGs, engineers, PP, whatever... but keep a focus on taking extra Empire missions whenever you can while doing other things. Example - I have unlocked three engineers almost by accident by participating in CGs, and gained loads of useful Empire and Fed ranks at the same time. For me, thus really helps quell the feeling of over grinding.

The best tool for this... Inara.cz + EDDB. I'm currently combining Empire rank semi-grind, with unlocking Bill(?), while also collecting as many CIF and other rare mission rewards, while messing around with a PG's system BGS. All without leaving a 40ly radius!

PS I do have a good spot to run data missions between two close systems when needed... Pm me.

Clipper sucks, save yourself the trouble. I did the grind to get their, flew it once then sold it again.

I liked the clipper well enough to buy two of them.

One I use for mining, one I use for general screwing around. It handles vastly better than the Cutter.

I did zero to Baron at Mainani in an alt account the other day - it seemed to be surprisingly quick - 2 or 3 hours maybe.

It's great for some things.

Also, in case you weren't aware, becoming cordial/friendly/allied with Empire-aligned factions increases the number and value of available missions.

I'll mention my Clipper love: Just my favourite all-rounder, flies great, looks slick, can quickly switch from cargo to passenger to mining outfits. Combat? Hmmm not too shabby either, although that's not my speciality!

Main drawback (apart from the rank-grind) is it's large, so bye bye outposts :D

As others have said the speed of rank gain depends on the amount of missions per real time invested. This makes it pointless to do lenghty missions or a single one per trip/docking as they never give enough rep to get anywhere - you can do those for income reasons though.

You ideally want to accept as many individual missions as you can, for which data courier missions are perfect as they don't require any cargo, and then have a short trip to the destination. Should you find a good starting spot a perfect destination system would loop you back to where you came from with more delivery missions so you can stack missions at each stop to make this a bit more efficient - you will still mostly stack missions in the starting system but having a few for the return trip is always welcome. Two nearby systems with only few stations and a Boom state are usually a good starting point for this as it provides many boom delivery missions, which in return spares you the hassle of flipping the mission board to get a lot of desired delivery missions offered.

I can't point you to a specific set of systems as I never did Empire but when you go anywhere pay attention to how many Empire minor factions are in a system - the more in one place the easier it is to get a lot of missions that help you gain rank. The idea then is to do all kinds of missions for those factions until you reached enough minor-faction reputation to get more missions offered and then eventually transition to stacking grindable ones.

If you want to actually make a decent credits from all this grind it's advisable to run bulk passenger missions for mostly economy and a few business class runs 1-2 jumps away. As you can stack a lot of those and payouts can be decent (pay mostly scales with the distance to the target station from jump-in in the arrival system, not total jump distance between systems) it's a good way to make money and gain reputation.
For Federation reputation the system Rhea was a popular choice as it has many Federation factions, a tourism economy to provide lots of passenger missions, sends passengers to the nearby LQ Hydrea system a lot, which in return only has one station at a bit over 15k ls away from jump-in to give decent payouts. There are many great systems like that and you can filter eddb.io a bit to see if it help you find one nearby. Takes a bit of using the galaxy map to check things out and then going their yourself to see if you had the right idea. Else perhaps someone who did grind for the Empire can mention specific spots.

I want to seize the opportunity to point out that by supporting the Emipre you do endorse a corrupt family clan that doesn't have the mental capacities to reason like normal human beings and instead backstabs and murders everything in their way like the underdeveloped savages they are. Their only plan for ruling people is bolstering their own income and position of power, they never did anything to help anyone and they have no proper response to the Thargoid crisis either. Their ships are incredibly overpriced and ugly. Are you sure you don't want Federation reputation instead? Just think of that beautiful Federal Assault Ship with its perfect form waiting for you. Tempting, right?

Essentially, locate two empire aligned systems that are very close to each other (ideally on the fringe of the bubble) and undertake courier missions (they have no cargo and are essentially hauling data) between. They do not pay well, but under a Civil War or Boom state, will be plentiful, which is the important factor.

Sothis and Ceos, is an example of a Federal aligned sympathetic relationship, where each system sends you to the other;. The key is to find an empire system, sending you to another empire system, that sends you back to the original system. They should both be in the same state to maximise the chances of courier missions appearing.

If they are both in a state of Civil War, or Boom, you'll be able to run hundreds of missions over the course of a few play sessions. Courier missions offer a 'medium' increase in reputation for the local faction, which will in turn push your Imperial reputation; triggering rank up missions periodically as you hit 100% of each Naval tier.

Unfortunately, there aren't too many ways in game that can help with this, but eddb.io can help narrow down some potentials. There are a handful of such relationships across the bubble, where two same-aligned systems are sending missions back and forth.

The Cutter is an oil tanker meant to float in a straight line :D I've actually made the Cutter my miner as I had no other purpose for it. The Clipper is vastly more agile, it's just that it is a jack of all trades, master of none. It looks gorgeous though.

I did the Mainani courier missions with an 8t cargo module in a DBX. It took a few days, but I got my Courier, which is all I wanted. Of course, I figured in for a penny, in for a pound, so I kept doing them. After a week of concerted effort, I earned my Cutter (which is the rank of Duke). Just do those, and you should be fine. :)
