Help ! Lost in space ! I cant find my way home :)

Hi guys

Ok I have been exploring about 1200 LY above the galactic plane. Lots of unexplored stuff and I have been happily pottering about. Problem is I'm struggling to find a way back down ! Beginning to freak out now a bit, when I use the glaxy map I can't seem to find a route back. The network of 'spiders arms' seems to run out of road about 100LY in all directions. Crazy because I got here

Whats the best course of action/logical way to get a bearing home .

Maybe you have too much fuel? Try jumping about to burn some fuel to get a bigger jump range. I've heard of people that have gotten stuck because they filled up with fuel.

Go to your navigation panel and plot a route home by limiting your jump range according to how far you can jump Grizzz, if you think you have found one but it just needs a little more range then like Promius say's use up a little fuel at a time until you can make that jump but always try to check if there is a scoopable star shortly after that jump so that you do not run out of fuel again after making that low fuel jump....hope that helps a little, like you say Grizzz...you got there so there must be a way back home again even if it means a low fuel jump risk.

That's odd, my 'network of spider's arms' never seems to extend more than 50 LY and certainly no further than 2 jumps. Not that I pay it any attention, should look for an option to turn it off, it doesn't determine where I can plot a route to.

Find a system you know such as Eravate or Sol and try plotting something roughly in that direction and keep repeating until you get back to recognisable space. The "spiders web" does have a limited range as it takes a while to calculate it and if it went right through the whole universe it would hammer your CPU for a long time.

Maybe you've gone too far up above or down below the galactic plane
Find the coordinates you're at on the map, scroll out till you can see them.
The middle value is your point above or below the galactic plane, the + or - will reveal which one.
Simply get close to to the center then try plotting a route home.
I ran into what was looking like a dead end until I realised I'd gone over 1kly above the galactic plane.

Use the spiders web to move in the direction you want. Sometimes when in deep space the 1000 LY plots fail. However, the spider web will take you home in 100LY segments.

The route calculator has a flaw in that it can only calculate routes in which each successive system is further from you than the last. Sometimes the way back may require a little bit of doubling back, and the calculator won't 'see' those routes.

Switch off both your fastest and economical, i.e. no spiders web and plot a route directly down. All "webs" will end after a while, I never use them. Just select where you want to go and let the route plotter do it for you.

I turned off both at the start when I left for my journey, its the first thing I do everytime I fire ED up, into map screen click twice on fastest.
I hate the lines it leaves all over the screen, they get in the way sometimes.

There you go Grizzz, all good advice above, if all else fails you could always call for a taxi, but you know the fare is going to be high...shy high probably......sorry I will get my coat too...

Thanks for the awesome advice guys ! The fuel issue makes sense - hadn't considered that in my increasing state of panic :D

Will attempt to find a way back down tonight.
