Help me choose a ship.

I've been flying Python for the most of the last ½ year now and have used it for everything.
Earlier I traded much - did so with no trouble and could do 200 tonnes with a "cheap" setup.
I went to mining after that and the Python really excel at that. Has great internals for mining - both fast and efficiently!
Lately I've been doing HazRes with it and usually I would have to return to dock with around 3 million in credits. Its true that the Python does not handle very well, but fittet with 3 large fixed burst lasers and 2 gimballed medium cannons it can melt through anything. Mostly the only ships I had trouble with was Condas, because the Python can't stay out of turret fire.
If you ask me you can do anything with the Python, but where it really shines is its ability to do everything good, but nothing really excellent. Hence the multirole classification!

The FAS and the FDL are purely combat ships, and will therefore be better in combat, but suck at everything else!

Make no mistake - I would choose a Python again any day. It's strong, and can outlast most ships in a 1v1 while dealing massive damage for its size.
And if you manage your pips actively you will be able to both tank, shoot and outmaneuver simultaneously.
Python is such a great ship.

Stick with your Vulture.
I have tried Python, FAS and FDL and always end up back in the V.

For me weapons placement, agility and survivability plus a decent 15 ly range. Vulture has it all.

I would have said Python, but since the FDL power plant upgrade I think that's probably the one to go for. The FAS is good but you will almost always take damage when fighting and that eats in to your profit.

I'd keep the Vulture and make sure ive got the biggest fixed or gimballed beams on it. Power management is tricky but you get used to it. A Vulture with beams can strip the shields of anything in double quick time. Conda's and Pythons are prey. Its manoeuvrable too. Fast. But its jump range is pants.

Its cheap, versatile and can take down any ship. Once you get used to the power management. I'm not fussed about any other combat ship above this coz once its on your tail, your python is going down. (Metaphorically speaking as I play Mobius).

The FDL looks nice, the Python is ubiquitous and the Conda is a lard ass. But the Vulture is still my favourite ship.

These days armour repairs cost so, so little in comparison to the money you make from bounty farming that this really doesn't matter. You can argue the cost of shield cells is about the same (and the much faster need to rearm them).

It's all relative. I'd definitely not let the cost of repairs put you off the FAS.

This, although my thoughts to add:

Voice Attack is the answer to power management issues. Since I started using it I don't conciously know I'm doing it! Soooo easy :)

I always end up back at C3 gimballed pulses. Other setups too hot or too hungry... but I prefer a minimum of 5B thrusters. And my main problem with mixed weapons loadouts is shooting stuff when I'm supposed to be scanning it!

Love the FAS as a natural progression from the Vulture.
Takes some time to get used to not panicking as soon as your shields drop though. FAS is awesome. I like the Python too with mil spec hull.
The FDL's a bit of a pain though not flown it since the power plant buff don't know if it makes much difference. I do know that it has to stop at every scoopable star like an incontinent dog at lamp posts!

Yes as Gunnerbill says, Voice Attack is a must. Its so bleeding handy for power management that it becomes second nature.

A FAS with two c2 fixed beams, a C3 PA, and a C3 Cannon will be great vs. large targets. That ship is amazing and I honestly prefer it to the FDL (at least 'till we get good C4 weapons). You can also run 2 C3 pulse and 2 c2 multi-cannons on the FAS. It will still do a great job.
.
The python can be an amazing bomber (2 C2 pulse, 3 C3 G cannons) but I would wait 'till we get C3 multi-cannons and set it up with dual C2 multi-cannons, a C3 multi-cannon, and dual C3 G pulse.

.
And its far more agile than a Conda so you should do a fine job avoiding damage while maintain some burst defense unlike the other two. However the FAS is a great ramming ship, and one of the most agile ships in the game at all speeds (so it can make great use of drifting, something the FDL can not do). That and the FAS is a pretty good hybrid ship.

For PvE, anything.

Probably Python for the versatility.

Anything can not be better/worse than anything. Each of the 3 ships do have different combat strengths and weaknesses.

Some find the Python good for combat, I'm not one of them, even with 6a shields and boosters, I find the shields melt quickly, and then the canopy goes quickly too.
FAS is my newest acquisition, very natural step up from the Vulture.
I'd love to try the FdL, but I could only choose between that and the FAS, flipped a coin, and the FAS won.

I stack HRPs and a AFM unit on the lowest slot and have it set to repair the canopy constantly. Been doing a lot of CZs and using a bi-weave even when my shields go down it nothing to worry about. Another python was hitting me point blank with its frag cannon turrets, 1v1, it has full shields and hull and my shields were offline. I lost 6% hull and my canopy remained. I have yet to loose more than 45% hull fighting with a lot of reckless abandon (I rammed a Cutter by mistake).

!!!!
Holy cow-why didn't I think of that?
This is the only weakness of my tanked Vulture and I can easily sacrifice a 1D HRP for an AFM.

I ditched the Python for the Conda because I could fight with my target below my bridge in the Conda and never have the canopy crack. It took me a good week/month after they announced being able to repair the canopy to 2 and 2 that myself :). It's an added bonus that the canopy can not go "offline" when being repaired.

Wow i did not expected so many answers and good info so soon.
I want to thank everyone for your help.
I made my mind and i will go and try the FAS as soon as i get the chance :D
Don't know why i like the way it looks too (i know i am strange person :3 )

Good lad, you won't regret it ;)

This is similar to my current build:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/federal_a...b1b0j040404B2372b292727.Iw18cQ==.IwBhrSsiyA==

That's a pretty good hull tank build, but with a large fuel scoop for getting about quickly. You could get rid of that if that doesn't bother you.

The plasma accelerator is fun. You can always do away with that if you're not interested in them.
