Help me configure for Occulus Rift

I'm going to add a second Asus GTX 970 Strix to get ready for Occulus Rift. I'm running I5 4690K on a Z97 motherboard with 16 gig mem.

I currently use the DVI out to my 1440 monitor and my HDMI out to my large screen TV in the next room. (I use the PC as HTPC with JRiver acting as my DVR.)

I don't use the Displayport currently as I was having troubles - the PC was booting to the TV for some strange reason when I used displayport for my monitor. Assigning HDMI a priority, I think. I could probably solve that if it matters - it was just easier to go via dvi to the monitor.

So when I add the second 970, could anyone out there suggest the three cable connections to Occulus Rift, TV, and monitor? Can you point out any problems/challenges.

Just trying to nail things down before I get out the credit card, as in "This should work, right?"

Thanks in advance, and my apologies if I'm in the wrong forum.

Don't use the rift on display port as there is some sync issue that causes a frame drop spike every few seconds. I have a single 970 and I use 3 screens for nvsurround, two monitors on dvi and the other on display port with the DK2 on hdmi. Can even use nvsurround and DK2 at the same time, great for assetto corsa! You'll need to stick with sdk 5 or 6 for now as ED uses extended mode, you can run a mirror to another screen which is very useful, see sticky post.

When you use the cards in SLI if you're going for max 3D performance you can only use the outputs from one card, I suggest monitors on dvi, use dvi to hdmi adapter if needed and the rift on hdmi. I previously had SLI 660s with my 3rd screen on the second GPU but thus would be disabled when I used the DK2 and max 3D. Would be interesting to hear what performance you get from dual 970s, I'm not bothering with SLI again until consumer VR and windows 10/dx12 for vram stacking.

If you can afford it, sell your current 970 and get a single 980Ti instead of SLI 970. Sli 980Ti is worse than a single 980Ti in VR, too much lag, I can't imagine SLI 970s being better than SLI 980Tis and a single 980Ti overclocked can easily match SLI 970s
