Help Me Find A New Game...

...To play on my laptop, at work. :p

ED has out grown my old Acer Aspire 5740g. I used to use it to do most of my uninteresting travels in ED, while at work, but alas, 11fps and 60+ second transitions are too uncomfortable to play.

So I'm looking for something new to play.
My requirements are as follows;
1) Offline, so i don't have to tether to my phone, which is unreliable. Lol
2) Can run on my laptop well, which means it's probably an older/simpler game.
3) Smallish. Not looking to download a 50gb game or something. Plus my laptop only has a 120gb SSD. Lol
4) Cheap or Free.
5) Something i don't have, or have played to death. (Check Steam

My laptop is an odd creature, it'll run games like ED, Arma II, XCOM and Skyrim, and even 7 Days To Die at almost playable speeds. But then older games like Battlefield Bad Company 2, or C&C Red Alert 3, won't even launch. And others, like GRID, and Sonic Generations run extremely slowly. It's almost impossible to tell what will run and what won't. Lol

Feel free to list any and all games you can think of. I'm open to most. Classics, Retro Arcade, RPG, RTS (or turn based), FPS, platforms, etc. Not a fan of sport games, but i do like racing (but my laptop needs to be able to run it smoothly).
I can use KB+M or an old Xbox 360 gamepad.

In the mean time, i might play Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe... Lol

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the requirements for these games but they're all worth checking out.
The Longest Journey
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Shadowrun Returns / Hong Kong
Wasteland 2
Tides of Numenera
Pillars of Eternity
Divinity Original Sin
The Walking Dead 1 + 2
KOTOR 1 + 2
Neverwinter Nights 2
etc

Have you played Life Is Strange?

I'd grab a civ game, whichever one works properly on the laptop. :) Or maybe Mount & Blade: Warband? Its cheap, simple gfx but very deep and fun.

I've played some of those, notably KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights (1&2), and Walking Dead.
Some of the others, particularly Wasteland won't run. But I'll look in to the others.
I've not played Life is Strange, or heard of it for that matter. Lol

Heh, the last Civ game i played was Civilisation I. Lol
Not seen the Mount & Blade games yet. I'll take a look!

I did just remember my love for Medieval II, Total War. I may have just answered my own thread with that one. Bit of a big download though. Lol

I just realised it's actually too bright to use my laptop at work... Damn sun. damnold laptop with no brightness control.... Damn work! Lol

Rimworld.
Darkest dungeon.

Neither of those is going to be a cpu hog and they should be reasonably priced, both very addictive games.

Rimworld is badass!

(i am sorry...
it's a really fun game, just remember that most updates break save games because it is still in development)

EDIT: I can see you have both and have 6.7hrs logged in X3:AP. That's not even scratching the surface.

My problem with the X3 games is that it takes about 10 hours to build an economy that runs by itself. You can just turn on you computer, go to work, return and be a rich man.

Forgive me if I misremember or it was another forum user, but didn't you say recently in another post that you drive a van/lorry for a living? Are we going to see you on the news because you were playing ED while travelling down the M6? :)

My game time for the X games on Steam is nowhere near accurate. Lol
I used to have the boxed editions of these games, then transferred to steam.

I played most X3:R to death, and created my own massive empire. I even modded it quite extensively myself. :)

But, X3 doesn't run very well on my laptop. Lol

Lol
Sometimes I drive, sometimes i just sit in the van stationary, and other times, i drive places, then sit in the van stationary. And come on these forums to troll you all. :p

Umm... You can go to [insert credits "exploit" here] in E: D and get to the Anaconda from the starting sidewinder in a few hours. Your argument being? :D

That automation is the core design in X3, but exploits are not for ED. I still like X3!

If you want cheap games that wont tax the comp much, you can hardly go wrong with GOG and their collection of classics. They have plenty of titles from the late 90s early 2k (the golden age of pc gaming really) that will run without problem on a modern w10 computer.
Also if I only have access to a weak comp, I like to fire up Steel panthers WAW (which can be downloaded and played for free) or play a bit of Transcendence.

I also see you have KSP listed but haven't played much of it, any reason? It doesn't require a beast to run (as long as you don't go crazy with the rocket parts) and there's a lot of fun to be had with it.

And every month or so you can grab Crusader Kings 2 and all its expansions on sale for 30-ish on Steam, another solid game for a modest PC (or if you want to go even cheaper, there's always Crusader Kings 1 or good old Victoria 1 which should also run on modern systems and still hold up quite well).

+1 for SP:WAW [up]

From GOG, grab the original Master of Orion.

I'd also recommend GOG.

I didn't see Planescape Torment of that list of yours?.. Planescape Torment

Nope, not helping you play games at work LOLLOLL

Ok, space genre attempt two:
FTL: Faster Than Light ? It will run on a potato... :)
Oh. I totally forgot about that. Gonna check it out. :D

Aww, but i get bored. Lol
So bored in fact, i watched the entire Battlestar Galactica TV show, and it's movies, and most of The Walking Dead, completed Skyrims main quests, earned millions in ED, completed XCOM multiple times, created many transport empires in Transport Tycoon Deluxe and Train Fever, survived the zombie apocalypse in 7 Days To Die, win many battles in Arma II online PvE.... Etc etc. :D

When my manager said Click and Collect can be dull, "bring your own entertainment", i think he meant, a book. But no, i brought my laptop, a gamepad, a mouse, headphones, a WiFi dongle to reach the a stores WiFi, and a special adapter to plug it in to the van to keep it charged. Lol

It got busier recently, so i actually had some work to do, which is good, really. But then clever Tesco hiked up the prices for click and collect, and now it's quiet again. Lol

Being cheap, i just decided to try Medieval II Total War, again.... Because, it's in my library already. Lol

8 hours to download! Yay!

I still have Rome II Total War that I've not played yet. It didn't really run well on my PC when it came out. But that won't even start on my laptop. Lol

https://cncnet.org/ Classic C&C action! Yes the basis is online, but you can download the single player mode too for C&C, Dune 2000, Red Alert & Tiberium Sun plus all their video's & get into some classic RTS play, all free.

Then again, there is also X, Xtension, X2 for a bit of nostalgia, even if they aren't quite as good as X3.

Fallout 1, 2 Fallout 3, New Vegas etc, all available on steam & should work on your PC, Minecraft too.

The creators of Monkey Island have just released a new game "Thinbleweed Park" I haven't played it yet but it harks back to the golden age of the SCUMM engine!

It is kind of the point to X3, plus it takes a lot more than money to get everything you need to build stations! And then that is only until your ships start jumping into Xenon territory, or random pirates decide to turn up in your favorite trading system, or they blow up your stations... What I do like is that technically you already have space legs in it (literal space legs, you can't wonder about in stations but you can in space). Persuading NPC pilots to leave their vessel is always fun too...
