Horizons Help me find Polonium?

I've been driving around on Shinrarta Dezhra A 1 for a bit over four hours in total now, with time spent in a couple of different locations (all craters), and have yet to locate any Polonium. In fact, in this time, I've only found one metallic meteorite "formation" (set of 3). Am I doing something wrong, or just extremely unlucky?

I can only play casually these days, and as much as I love ED, spending all my time driving around in the SRV in what seems like a futile search for materials that I need if I want to have a go at some of the cooler engineering stuff coming out in 2.1 is really turning me off.

So, am I doing something wrong, or is this "working as intended"?

No your not doing anything wrong its just really difficult to find. I have been out in the black for months now and explore the odd planet looking for both Polonium and Arsenic - never found either. I am at the stage now where I find hunting for elements an extremely tiresome pastime...one planet surface blurs into another...its just so boring boring boring. :O

Shinrarta Dezhra 1 (28.9126, -36.7043) - 50% Arsenic, 45% Niobium and 5% Polonium

Heilelang 3 (8.5923, 15.2435) - 30% Polonium (only on meteorites), 70% Niobium

Thanks! I will give this a look.

Also, I'm inferring from this information that certain areas on a given planet could have more or less (or none?) of particular elements?

Certain regions will yield better results, a group of cmdrs are reworking on a method to the madness. Apparently it's all changed in 2.1, the above locations may not work in Beta.

I read something the other day that the guys mapping compositions were worried about the very thing you mention, but FD came back and said they were looking at it - so I'm hoping that compositions won't change.

You, sir, are the man! Is it sad that I've got somewhere to the tune of 800km driven on the surface of planets, and this is the first time I've found any polonium? (and this isn't the first time I've gone looking for it)

Your spot was fantastic. I found 4 meteorite spots within about 10 minutes of logging in this morning, and one had the polonium.

Thanks again!

Sadly, a couple more hours in this area, and I've not found any more Po. Ugh.

Did I read correctly that maybe some of these materials would be available via ice mining? Although I suspect even if that's true, they will probably be just as rare....

I know it's been quite a few days after the last post on this thread but your spot Heilelang 3 is brilliant!, out of every 3 meteorite group 1 always had 1 polonium and so far every lone meteorite i've found has had 1 polonium, managed to gather 4 in around an hour which is a LOT! given my previous tries at other planets.

Not to mention the planet's rich in germanium, vanadium and niobium!

Also, check mission boards at stations and platforms in extraction/refinery systems, I've seen a lot of missions with Polonium rewards.

From all the Mats Polonium is the biggest Diva, everytime I did some prospecting and the very rare just didn't want to show up even after a long time I said to myself "its gonna be Polonium, isn't it?" and I always was right :D

And listen to CMDR B.Schmidt, I have gotten by now quite a few Polonium from missions. Always check every place you dock for the very rare mats.

Thanks for the tip, Heilelang 3 produced 7 Polonium in a couple of hours of driving around. Listen to the signal to help decide what to go after, I found two pieces in an outcrop with a metallic ringing signal.

Was it the metallic meteorites? I'll probably try there later today. Last night I tried for Polonium on one of the planets suggested in Farseer's news feed. While I did eventually find 2 Polonium on that planet, it took a good 2.5 hours of searching. The problem was they only came from Metallic Meteorites and I only found 3 the entire search - though 2/3 of the M.M. had polonium..... just couldn't find many at all. I was searching all over.... in craters, on flat surface, in valleys, and mountains. It seemed only in the mountains/very difficult terrain were there M.M.

Metallic meteorites usually contain it. After finding one or two at the same place just drive around in SRV, with time you might get luck in finding an additional one or two at the very same place.
If not, fly away, land somewhere else and start the process again.
I never found more than 4 pieces on the same planet though and usually takes 1.5 hours.

The drop rates are defiantly crap! Since 2.1 dropped I've found 1 polonium. I think i'm going to take a break from the game, maybe check back in next season.

You sir are a legend! I had no problem finding arsenic, but until now had never come across as single fragment of polonium.

you can add tugsten to the list for Heilelang 3. This place is a gold mine .... .... just without the gold.
Thanks for the tip!!
