Ship Builds & Load Outs Help me out fit a Cobra for 2 - 2.5 Million CR?.

I must admit, I am a little puzzled. First I don't get your power management and second I can't make sense of some of your upgrade decisions (talking about the original saltyseadog build that he posted). For example you only have 90 MJ shields for 5 tonnes of weight and 500K credits by using 3A but 4D would give you 100 MJ at 4 tonnes and only 60 K credits.

I have taken your build as a base and suggest the following:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_....Iw1-kA==.EwBj4yQRjI==?bn=Saltyseadog Revised

It boosts faster, jumps a little further, has power management that works without doing anything except setting priorities (no disable/enable switching) and has 100 MJ more shields at almost the same price. You lose the rails but since you only want to defend yourself the class 1 beam class 2 multi-cannons are a working proven combo.

You will only need to fight NPCs, against players you should run, since you don't have a dedicated PVP ship it is a loosing battle before it even begins, so your best bet is your speed and your chaffs. Against NPCs your weapons will be sufficient. Boosting is your friend. If you leg it and your shields drop use silent running with the heat sinks and always remember to high-wake when facing ships that lock you or are as fast as you.

I have finally settled on the build in the link. It is a bit more expensive but can be easily modded for mining or exploration. Appreciate your opinion. http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_...2f2i.Iw1-kA==.IwBhrSsig===?bn=Saltyseadog MkI

I went from a Sidewinder to an exploration Cobra via rare goods trading. Two trips in the Sidewinder funded the Cobra with some minimal mods for trading. IIRC, I simply maxed cargo, kept everything else stock, and went out with it:

Cheap Cobra Trader - under 500k.

I did 4 more runs in this, slowly updating mods, to get my current exploration fit. The thrusters and the power distributor were the first things I bought, as they made the most difference in survivability. I bought the FSD in stages (class D, then class C, then class A) because it made the actual 140 LY trip faster. Otherwise, I simply saved up for the bits I fitted, doing the weapons and internal compartments last.

Here is the Cobra I started with for rare trading except for the Bi-Weave shield. She originally had a plain 4C shield in the build. Mk III Multi Role Rare Trader/Explorer/Bounty Hunter

Here is my baby, the Carol Joy She is A rated in the standard slots except for life support and can survive a dogfight very well unless you are up against a wing or a couple of dangerous NPCs working in tandem. If it gets too tough or you can't be bothered to play with the interdictors, she has enough speed to run away. I originally had a 4A shield but I am really liking the 4C Bi-weave shield and mirrored composite bulkheads. I can do around a Million Credits an hour on my Rare route if I don't get interdicted. You can loose the detailed Scanner and Docking computer and replace them with Cargo racks and up your profit to 1.5 million credits. If you take a dedicated combat mission (good luck finding kill pirate missions right now :eek:), I usually swap out the cargo rack for a hull reinforcement, then reinstall the cargo rack when I want to go back to rare trading. The Kill Warrant Scanner is just there to add credits to the Bounty for combat missions and interdictors if I decide to take them out. Went with a 4B fuel scoop as a 4A fuel scoop give just a little more fill speed but has a very high cost. 4B 715K and fills in 54 seconds. 4A 2.862M and fills in 46 seconds (for empty tanks). I hope you find a build you like, I did.
