Help Me Pick a System to Colonize

I'm experiencing a bit of the choice paralysis. Like, where do you even begin to start to look?

I know some of y'all have plans to leapfrog to certain places. So, to narrow down the options, what system could I take over/ start from that would help one of you get one jump closer to that goal?
I'm not looking to join a player group, player faction, or anything, I want to stay independent for this. But I figure I might as well help someone or someones in the process.

Cheers,

For me, I wanted a system that I could treat as a home base, so I wanted something with an interesting system in a convenient central location

I was ten minutes late to the party and those system I had earmarked were already taken, so I picked one that is a nice location with a crappy system (Dim T-star with some ice worlds). However I'm running with that theme; it's a dead system no-one would visit, so I'm going to build a secret smuggler base :)

I think make you decision based on what things interest you about the game

I have yet to find any system remotely interesting to consider spending time and money to colonize.

I'm probably going to wait on this feature until better areas of space open up in the upcoming months. Colonization looks interesting but it's still very much in beta right now.

I looked around until I found one near my base of operations that wasn't just a bare star or "oops, all iceballs" and had a couple of dozen slots of each type.

I can start looking further afield for fancy systems once I've got myself familiarised with the mechanics.

Caved in today and looked for 10 minutes at the edge of the bubble space where I have my center of operations, and voila:

Small system without rings but a water world with a moon, and more than enough building slots for me to test stuffs.

Got the claim, started with an industrial outpost, have the CMM already
Will do a bit of CG and a bit of hauling for this one until I finish it barely before the tick.

Nice. I passed up on a system with a water world because the primary port was around the B star and I ain't got time for that while carriers are still taking an hour to jump.

I haven't seen anything mentioned in any of the guides about particular bodies having boosts for particular economies - most of the ELWs in the bubble have agri stations, but I don't know if colonising a system with an ELW would boost agricultural yields?

Its needs a better filter system as looking at what is left at a contact just leads you on a jumpathon to systems with just a star or just blah. Went out by Pleiades and same thing nothing worth while. Dedicating the kind of time it takes for this I will pass until they hammer out the selection process.

Did you ever find a decent system? I've searched for quite a long time - there's nothing decent out there anymore or right now. Looks like Fdev has put a pause on colonization for now as well.

Decent meaning: a Scoopable Star with a mix of several bodies, landables, walkables, gas giants wwalkable, etc.

There are lots of decent systems within colonization range of the edge of the bubble, (though they might be hard to find among the more numerous not-so-decent systems) however you won't find a decent system near Sol any more; a decent system near Sol that was somehow not already populated was extra rare to begin with

Depends on the definition of decent. Given reports of people being able to re-colonize a claimed system I'm going to err on the side of caution and keep my location to myself but the frontier has gobs of nice sytems. Found a recently colonized system and used it to mark all the possible stars it could open and began my search by looking for anything but M's. First jump was to a system of 5 planets, with 4 giants with rings. One metalic and the rest rocky and high metal. Moons with atmo, bio, and lots of slots. Identified a second system after grabbing my first that looks promising if I decide to expand my little bubble. Doubt it will last though.

Yeah, it's going to have a terrible name but expanding the frontier was always what I wanted to be doing. Its not going to be noob friendly space out behind Harma but seemed like a great location for my alt to start his own criminal industrial engine. Gotta keep the herd of piracy piñatas plump and flowing for the boss.

For me it was finding a landable atmospheric planet really near a star (like 100-500 ls), so I can enjoy a nice sunrise view from a planetary spaceport.
How do you pull that off? Enjoying a sunrise? The flickering shadows and seizure inducing lighting bugs has made the terminator on planets something I dread being anywhere near since they busted lighting over a year ago. It's sad really. I used to love landing and seeing the sunrise and set, now I prefer to avoid it.

Maybe stick with one criteria you would really like for your system of choice, that could filter the candidates.

I too have found a great planet with green ground, blue sky and good light. It also has bios like tussock so looks great. Might be a while before I can colonise it though - its about 3.5kLy from bubble!

Is the Orion Nebula Tourist Centre in PMD2009 48, a candidate for expansion ?
Its in the area of Running Man Neb and Orion Neb. This has been an area I thought would be ripe for colonization with the closely packed systems.
I'm just learning about this new adventure. GL HF

I actually haven't played since making this post lol. I think I'll side with a power first and narrow down shrink the area to look in by trying to expand their borders. I'ma wait until there's been a couple stabile weeks before trying to claim something though.

Seems a lot of fixation on the edge of the bubble. If you just want to experience colonisation, then there are plenty of systems inside the bubble which are uninhabited, and to which it will be much easier to ship commodities.

I chose an uninhabited system in my power's area which had a pristine metallic ring with a platinum hotspot and a reasonable number of bodies. One of which was ammonia atmosphere and 8 bio signals which sounded interesting.

Initial port was only 15ls from main star which was also a huge bonus for the speed of delivering commodities to the colonisation ship.

Just my two cents as still trundling back to the bubble from Colonia, 64l/y jumps at a time, that pilots should not auto-discount M stars. I've found dozens of waterworlds, several ammonia worlds and even a few Earth worlds orbiting M stars on my trip. As for exo-biology I've come across more no atmosphere moons with life around M stars than I think all other star system types which makes more interesting alien plants to scan. Yes there are plenty of vanilla ice worlds as well but its not all about G, A stars etc.
