Horizons Help me with navigation

Hi to all,

It happens to me, from time to time that I see through my canopy, when I am in super-cruise or normal flight, some interesting star, constellation, nebula or any other object outside the current system and I feel like I'd like to fly there.
The obvious problem is that there is currently no way of how to tell the game 'lock this object' or 'show me this object on galaxy map' or 'tell me the name of this object' I am currently looking at from my ship.
Of course, when the nebula is very specific in it's visual features, chances are that I can identify it in galaxy map. I know my heading, I know that in that direction there should be something....
But this is rather uncommon and most of the time I can't do this.

Do you guys have some way around this?
Have you, experienced explorers, developed some procedure to achieve what I want?

Thanks.

No, sadly there's no easy way to do this at the moment (although I think it was mentioned that it was on FDs wish list...)

Like you say you can look for nearby feature (nebulae, particularly bright stars) and try and find them in the Galaxy map (the star class filters can be helpful for this)

You could also try the Exploration forum - there's lots of stuff in there:

and

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...e-Galactic-Mapping-Project-amp-Expedition-Hub

that might help narrow your search...

One way (the only way I know how to do this) - is to select a system as your next hyperspace destination then look at where the resultant navigation target marker is on your view with respect to the thing that interests you. Now you go into the galaxy map and see what direction that "locked in" target system is in, move the map to now select as destination a new system which you think will be more in-line with your interest item. Repeat this until you end up with a view from your cockpit of the sky with a hyperspace navigation target marker near to (or over) your interest item. Now you can go into the galaxy map and move it around so that you are looking along the route you have just plotted, now by zooming or moving the map you can find out what it was that grabbed your attention.

I believe that the "explorers" have a saying that if you see something interesting it is always NGC 7822. ;)

Good one :)

Btw, I think they have what I want in Space Engine. You can click everything you see.
