Help - Mining / Trade Tank

Hi,

Need some advice on what to do for a ship when I return from Distant Worlds trip.

Need to take a break from exploring so plan to do some mining (OK-ish) and maybe trade (which I hate)

I have about 700 million to spend

Choice is Conda, Corvette or Cutter

I need the ship to be able to shield tank for mining anywhere without having to run away too often and to be able to take down as many pirates during that time.

Currently I'm thinking Cutter, due to shield and run away speed, but not sure on it's ability to take down pirates.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Nutter

You mining in a RES? Why?

Mining's one of the safest activities in the game. You'll still get very good %'s away from a RES and you'll likely do it faster because you're not faffing around with NPC's.

Of course if you really like mining in a RES then that's your choice. The Cutter will be the best just because of get away speed but I've only just got mine so not tried out a tank build.

Personally I'd go for max cargo space 3 or 4 medium mining lasers a couple of large pulses to take out the initial NPC (if needed) a 6A shield and just avoid the RES.

I want to build my Combat and Trade rank without having to bother with a Trade Grind or Peew peww grind - I'm Combat (Expert) and Trade (Entrepreneur) through mining so far...

Thanks :)

Doh! should have guessed that! Well I've not built a tank yet and financially unlikely to for some time. Sorry.

I wonder if you might find the cutter a bit of a lumbering beast to mine in. But with many millions you could just give it a go and see.

Buy Anaconda for mining.
Use it's small and medium hardpoints for mining lasers, and 4 large for defence. More than enough.
Plenty of room for everything. Decent shield. Will work like charm i guess.

For mining all 3 Ships will do quite well, I would say it comes down to which ship you like more. All three have enough internals and enough hardpoints for mining and killing pirates.

If you want to do some trading withouit the fly from a-b-a and repeat stuff you can always try out longrange trading mission, the Conda will do very well with these thanks to jumprange or you can go cutter and sacrifice some jumprange for more cargo. But I wouldn't take the Corvette for that.
They can pay really good and give you serious progression for the Traderank.

Got a mining conda. Same as the rest said 4 mining lasers on it.

ive got 3x A5 collector controller, and 4x size 3 turreted beams.

I'd have to say Anaconda as well.

The Python is basically one of the best combat fit miners in the game and the Anaconda is a natural progression of that. Best part is, much larger jump range. This makes Pristine Rings more accessible in a lot of locations without needing to refuel with a scoop, or docking.

The only real downside of the Anaconda is how far back the cockpit is, but that's not too big of a deal with limpets.

Looks like a Mining Conda then, as for weapons, don't want to faff with ammo, mabe one cannon, but lasers... Beam or Pulse Turrets? Or Other?

Mining conda is probably best; however, should you choose the corvette this config has been working for me (jump range stinks though):

Yeah the terrible jump range is a real turn off, however I will be mining same system, gunna need much better shielding though, or I'll be running before I get me limpets out lol

I'd go with turrets then you just need to roll to have your weapons come to bear on the target. Any other maneuvers but rolling will potentially cause you issues as you are surrounded by big immovable rocks. :D Don't move the ship, just roll in place.

Try this build: ttp://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda/28A7A6A5A8A8D5C0o0o0o0o2m2m0q0q0003040404040404064f0505040404C0C01v2f.Iw18ZlA=.EwBjEYxcdmLpSVryA===?bn=Nutters%20Mining%20Conda (Amended to add beam lasers)

Only 562 Mil, a bargain. :) Fill a third to half of the hold with collector limpets and away you go.

One tip, if you keep the mining ship pointing in the same direction and use thrusters to move L <> R, U <> D, and forwards, you can make progress without covering the same ground twice. Also, if you need a fuel scoop (you shouldn't in RES, but FYI) just replace a cargo hold.

Main issue with the conda isnt that the cockpit is right at the back but that the cargo ramp the limpets return is right on the      end of the ship, so they're travelling an extra several hundred meters compared to the python.

Not sure if the cutter/corvette suffer this 'feature'

never found this an issue on the Conda.

What could be more smarmy than mining with a golden anaconda?!

Think the Anaconda is that all in one sweet-spot. One of the few ships that is worth buying, and keeping for good.

never found this an issue on the Conda.

It's never really been an issue for me either, you just concentrate on the instruments and you're dandy. Or just fill up with collector limpets and enjoy.

My conda has three extra limpets to my old python but collects far far slower because I can't park it over the sweet spot, not a problem the python had as the cargo ramp was near the front...ish, although the python and conda share the same problem in that the limpets take this really wide arch several hundred meters under your craft until they reach a node directly under your hatch before zooming straight up

Here's my suggestion for a Mining Tank.
Plenty of limpets for some serious mining. Decent shields and SCB. Beam turrets, so you can just carry on mining while attacked by smaller pirates, and a nice big cannon and rail guns for if their Mom turns up.
It has a little less cargo space than most builds. But I'm guessing that by the time you have filled your hold, your SCBs will be used up anyway.
