Help - my ship's going backwards.

I changed my bindings so that one of the hat switches on my x52 (previously used for fire groups) now changes power between systems. I didn't go anywhere near the throttle settings.

Now, for some reason, my ship is in permanent full reverse and the throttle does nothing. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Sorry but I'm on Xbox, but with my hotas if it's switched on with the throttle not central it assumes where that's set is the central ?? So if it's fully forward that's the neutral ?? A quick unplug may help if not sorry I wasn't much help

Thanks for replying. I tried unplugging the joystick (x52 pro), but it didn't help. I'll try a reboot, but I see no reason whatsoever why that would make any difference.

My hotas when plugging it in needs the throttle to be in the central position ? ( Neutral)
As the game assumes whatever the start position is is neutral .
So if my throttle at switch on was fully forward elite takes it as fully forward is neutral and would only be able toove the throttle back so neutral and reverse is reverse
And vice a versa if it was fully back ( reverse) then it would assume that's neutral position and can only go forward.
Again sorry if it doesn't work , not sure how different the pc hotas and game setup differs from console . 07

Do the basics. First check how it looks in windows. If that's fine double check your binds. Just because you say you didn't change it doesn't mean something didn't change it. 🤷‍♂️

Looks fine in windows and all the other keys (and joystick) work in game. It's just the throttle Z axis. Oddly enough, I managed to get into supercruise and the throttle was fine. Seems that the problem is only in normal space.

I'm completely confused.

My old X56 i customised with a 3D printed detent which gave me a 'click' indicating neutral.
That helped. But l use twin sticks now.
Something that might help is on the Z axis there is if you click the + a dead zone.
Bring this upto 10% of the one see if that helps.

Ohh don't assign forwards n backwards. Just assign the Z axis to it and assign a deadzone as mentioned.
Same with all axis tbh.

That is rather presumptuous.

I have my throttle's Z axis assigned as forward only, with a press-to-hold "reverse" button.

BTW if one uses HCS Voicepacks, that requires button assignments for everything, it can't command axes.

I would check this setting, if it's on toggle you'll stay in reverse on a forward only thrust setting until it's untoggled...

That's exactly how I have it set up. Just checked and it works fine in X4. Looks like it's something to do with Elite.
I can see myself having to copy all my binds and reinstall it. Really dont want to have to do that. Meh!

Does returning the hat to its previous function help?

When changing things I try where possible to put the new binds in the second colomn as an alternate so I can test stuff.

I have had problems with the X52 Pro at times with one of the buttons on the throttle thinking it’s a clutch which messes some stuff up, it has to be set back to a normal button in the X52 software.

i think everyone who owns one's had the "X52 clutch problem" at one point or another. :) I'll change it back and see if that does anything. like your idea abouy using the second column.

The weird part is it working in SC.

Are you keeping backup binds in the same folder? That can confuse ED.

I'd be tempted to expand Alternate Flight Controls just to make sure there aren't any spurious settings.

I've had an x52pro for 9 years and am still using the throttle. Clutch was always turned off. Never had problems like this.
And if it works as intended in other games, it can't really be the hotas. Hm.
SRVs have a keybind for reversing throttle. Do ships have that too? Never checked actually. And if yes, does the selected direction survive a relog?
