Just a few hints for you: even if your heath signature is very low and your opponent will not be able to lock you while flying around him, if you start shooting you have to turn Silent Mode ON, or he will "see" you.
When your heat is high and you start hearing the warning, drop an heat sink immediately, and your heat will go down. Alternatively you can switch off Silent Mode to let the ship cool down.
Here what I usually do: I use Silent to position my ship on opponent's back, than I safely disengage Silent Mode. When he's succeeding in facing me, I turn it on again. And so on
I use heat sinks just when I cannot switch Silent Mode Off because I would be in danger.
Ah, and when Silent Mode is disabled you have chaff as well
