Ship Builds & Load Outs Help outfiting a PVP ship

I need some advice on setting up a ship for PVP. I was thinking a Imp. Courier but could change to a FDL or something in that price range. Can anyone share some loadouts that would work well for PVP?
 
Well it depends on your tactic, there are some people that pvp with lasers, some with kinetic weapons, rail guns and whatnot, all depends on how good you are with said weapons, I would recommend you get the weapons you feel you are best at using, though I would recommend learning fixed weapons or training hitting ships with untargetted gimballed weapons, chaff and shield boosters are generally needed.

It really really depends on a lot, on target and such. It is going to sound odd, but I actually recommend you practice against the enormous amount of pirates in imperial clipper, depending on your ship naturally, because imperial clipper is the ship you might face most often (though that may change in 1.4), and imperial clipper is a good ship, you might consider that for initial pvp, there's a reason so many fly it, its in my eyes too great a ship for its price. Has very little in terms of flaws and can almost always get away.

Thanks for the info, I will need to play around with some different weapons. I've mostly played pve with lasers and MC, I am concerned that they will not be able to do damage fast enough to get ahead of shield cells. Tried some rail guns last night, will need more practice to hit anything with them.
 
It kind of depends on the situation you're expecting to face, as the other poster said.

1) Is this a duel? Is fleeing going to be a factor? If not, then asp/FGS/anaconda is probably the way to go. More hardpoints will win this fight as this means more frag cannons, which is a pretty hands down winner in PvP encounters which damage comparable to pre-nerf dumbfires. Beams and heat sinks are another option if you're playing a shield fight only, and if you can afford the power cost. Poke them with only one of your weapons initially. Double or even triple chaff is essential. Don't bother with more than one booster, it won't help. Double up on the SCBs, but I wouldn't bother with more than two as this is not going to be what is the deciding factor in the fight - the shields are probably going to break after the first solid pass.

2) Is this piracy? Are you targeting relatively weak opponents? A rail and pulse lasers, as you need that subsystem damage without too much hull damage. Rails will smash clean through the ship, giving it many opportunities to hit critical subsystems (thrusters, cargo hatch, FSD, power plant) while doing only one instance of hull damage. You will need chaff to push off the police while you collect the cargo.

3) Is a CZ/strike zone? Is there going to be a lot of PvE alongside? Then you probably want an endurance build, as this is the most general purpose PvP capable ship there is. Pulse lasers, multicannons, cannons, and more SCBs than your body has room for. Full pips to SYS. Pew pew pew and prepare for a half hour fight.
