Help re. Bounty Hunt/Pirates/Cluster Sites

Hi everyone,

I saw a couple of videos where Cmdrs fly into an asteroid field and hunt done dozens of ships. Where can I find these sites and what are the beacons called (retraction sites?).

I'm on a mission and I have to hunt down 4 pirates. I scan ships and hunt down 'WANTED' ones but none is a pirate. How do I discover / differentiate a pirate ship from a 'normal WANTED' one?

Especially, which planets, asteroid belts and sites (name of) do I have to go to to do bounty hunting like in the videos?

Thanks a lot in advance!!

You need to have something in your cargo hold to be able to fight pirates. They'll scan you, if you don't have anything they'll ignore you and you'll just get the usual bounty if you kill them. If you have something in your cargo bay, they will scan and attack, one they do you can kill them and it will count towards your pirate kills.

And you'll need to look for 'resource extraction sites', that's where they are plentiful.

Extraction sites are usually in the rings of gas giants. They will show up in your navigation panel or on screen if your are in the general vicinity.

Any ship that scans you and comments on your cargo is a pirate.

Ahaaaa! Ok, will try. Am near a gas planet with rings.
Will get some cargo. Is it important that it's valuable or just any cargo?

I suppose a Pirate scanning me will not take place while in FSD mode but more likely when flying in regular mode through an extraction site? Or is both possible with same chance?

Thanks a lot! Great help!

UPDATE: Was flying around gas planet near asteroid belt for a while (System Lan Zak). No 'extraction site' popped up. Except for an 'unidentified signal source'.
Hmmmmmm...
