Help requested. Any good videos showing how to operate FAOFF? Haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

I'm a space trucker. I don't fly combat very much. As such I never have had a need to fly FAOFF.

But I want to add a Viper to my little fleet as a permanent addition, and as such would like to learn how to fly FAOFF. Can anyone help out a n00b? :D

Attempting FA-Off only combat will get you killed quicker than a chicken on a junebug.

There is a very good reason planes utilize FBW tech - humans are not as clever as computers when it comes to the myriad of calculations necessary to keep all things functioning as they should.

That said,

There is obviously still a place for FA-Off maneuvering, more so than should be due to Elite's very simple Flight/Combat Dynamic. Soooo, your best bet would be to learn all about FA-Off and recognize where to incorporate FA-Off maneuvering into combat. Utilize both.

FA-off is a perfectly appropriate way to do combat. It's not by any means a death sentence.

Indeed, FA-off combat gives you several advantages over FA-on, provided that you can actually fly the ship. For instance, it's easier to circle a ship with FA-off. It aids with off-bore shooting, as you get very used to the kind of fine attitude and rotation control that you need to perform it. You can perform manoeuvres that are literally impossible with FA-on, and you get better at them because you have to.

NPCs have a harder time hitting you too.

Calling pure FA-off combat "suicide" simply shows that you haven't done it enough.
