HELP: research limpet won't launch. "Invalid Limpet Target"

I'm trying to farm the mats for the caustic sink launcher. I have the caustic generator scanned with both the composition and enhanced xeno scanners, but the research limpets will not launch, I'm getting the "Invalid Limpet Target" error message. I'm using a 7C Universal Limpet Controller.

What am I doing wrong?

I believe research limpets have to be launched without a target. Can anyone confirm or deny?
I found the correct answer, Sorry if you already tried the wrong answer:

Yes, you need to target the limpet docking port. Caustic generators work differently to normal sampling.

Once you scan it with your xeno scanner, go to the left- hand menu and go to the "Subtargets" panel. There will be a research limpet docking port listed. Target that and fire the limpet.

Note: you can only get a sample once per target.

This parallels how megaship limpet interactions work, but is inconsistent with the rest of tissue sampling.

They're not launching either way, target or not. EDIT: sorry, didn't notice your correction.

One other thing: caustic generators are not dropping corrosive mechanisms. I've destroyed several already, they've only dropped propulsion elements.

Hmm. The update was meant to make them drop both caustic mechanisms and propulsion elements, not just the latter.

Sounds like bugreport time.

It took a while and an instance reset but they eventually dropped, at a rate of 1-2 every 3-4 generators destroyed.

The caustic samples where tricky but got them as well. Keeping the generator in range during the sampling while staying out of interceptor range was nerve-wracking. Of course one spotted me when I picked up the very last sample and I barely made it out. Close call indeed.

Anyway, I'm off to unlock that caustic sink. Thank you all! o7
