Help using blueprints

Sorry if this has already been discussed but a quick search didn't find anything.
I haven't been able to use blueprints whether from Steam workshop or ones that I made in sandbox mode. Most of the Steam blueprints have a lock symbol on them and I cannot even select them. I have all of the mechanical research completed. On ones that do not have lock symbol, including ones that I made, they give a terrain modification error when trying to place them in Franchise mode even on ground that hasn't been modified and is perfectly flat.
Any ideas? Thanks

I think this is to do with what you have researched. I had the same problem with locked blueprints until I had researched all the barriers and habitats, I am guessing that if the creator has used parts that you have not researched then I guess you can't use it until you have.

As far as placing blueprints I found that if you use the "Flaten to foundation tool" on the area for the blueprint and then use the edit tool to move the blueprint down to ground level you should be able to place iot down. Hope this helps.

Actually I have all of the mechanical and vet research completed. The vets have a couple of animal advanced research ongoing but that is all. I'll try the flattening terrain idea but the areas I was having trouble with should already be flat since nothing has been there yet.

Yes I thought that too but put the radius on the biggest, swept it around the area and it seemed to work.
