Help... What did I miss? No missions I can do!

So either I'm a total noob and missed something, or this game is giving me the shaft.

So I started the game recently, new commander, spawned at Trevithick Dock, immediately went to go look at missions, accidentally picked one I can't do, went back to look at others and can't find any to do!

I saw a YouTube player that got a simple delivery mission right off the bat for 10k credits. The only missions I have are mining, or the jumps are too far for my ship, or I'm not advanced enough to do them.

And I can't mine because I don't have the lasers for it and can't afford them!

What the hell am I supposed to do?!

Jump to another station that is within your travel distance and take a look at the mission board there.

Build reputation. Trade exploration data to them (your base Sidewinder should have a basic scanner). That will at least give you something and lets you practice flying as well. When you sell the exploration data, it'll help gain rep with the top faction at that location. Do some trading too while scanning to get your credits up.

Finally, you actually aren't doing anything wrong or missing anything. Stations and factions will have varying missions, sometimes none. Just depends when you look. You could try the infamous "Board Jumping" that people either are totally for or against, but going into say "Solo" mode will most often give you other types of missions, and going back to Open again will shuffle it up once again. I won't condone or encourage doing that method, that will be up to you.

If you have any weapons, you can do some bounty hunting as well and turning them in to the current system for rep (just make sure they aren't wanted by the major faction).

These are just a few suggestions to get started, and sure there will be more people posting with other great methods for you.

There are a number of manuals to help get you started as well on here. I don't have the link or have time to find them, but maybe someone else can post some of those for you as well...

The same thing happened with me last night when I booted up the game. So I just launched and went to another station in the system and found several easy delivery missions available. I have also read that the mission board does update with new missions every 10 minutes or so, so if you're patient you could probably wait for that to happen to.

You should get a message once you start in the Dock, offering you a 10k delivery mission (ie, you don't need to select it from the mission board) - check your Comms panel.

You can force the mission board to refresh by mode switching. Check in open, save, check in solo. Rinse and repeat.

The mission board changes constantly, new missions appear, old ones disappear, sometimes it's completely empty. You can switch mode to force a refresh, travel to a different station, or wait.

Check your in-game mail (Hold square, and press UP on the D-Pad then use L1 and R1 to switch between the tabs), there should be a communication in there that tells you to go somewhere to receive the credits you mentioned.

Thanks guys. I did eventually find some I could do and I'm earning money now. So yay.

Anyone know where the damn mining lasers are? I only have the ghetto sidewinder and I've looked all through the ship outfitting and can't find the damn lasers anywhere. I'm almost assuming I can't have them. Anyone know if this is true?

Welcome to third party tools - https://eddb.io/station - type in where you are as the Reference Station and type the module you want (Mining Laser) in Modules

(Though I wouldn't go mining in a sidey unless you really like pain )

Edit: eddb isn't 100% correct - depends how recently a CMDR with eddb upload has been through - but usually ok for modules.
