Help: What is this ? Galaxy

Astronomy is not my real forte, but I'd really like to know just what this body is supposed to represent in the real-life universe: It's to the "east" of, and centrally level between the California and Pleiades Nebulae.

Noticed that too but never bothered to check is that a galactic object or neighbouring spiral galaxy. Looks like the latter, though.

Not really sure... presumably that's the M45 cluster on the very left of the image about half way down?

Which system are you in? Because constellations as we know them just don't exist outside of the solar system so referencing star maps is generally impossible.

[edit] I reckon they're right - it's Andromeda. It's roughly where I've circled on the star map (and M45 for reference).

So, when can we travel to other galaxies? Or are the Magellanic Clouds and others there only for show? :D

Yes, that is the Andromeda galaxy. You can also see the Triangulum galaxy a bit down and to the left in your photo.

Aw, I've been seeing that a lot and really wanted to go there and find out exactly what it is. Well, cheers for solving the mystery, I'll have to find some other odd pick splotch to visit.

It's likely Andromeda galaxy - see the real image of this galaxy with a other galaxy below Andromeda, just like OP showing.

Cool, I had also wondered what that was.

I visited the Pleiades nebula in game, it was quite beautiful :)
While there are some closed off systems around there needing a permit, the nebula itself is accessible.

Thanks for that Gfk, it's given me an idea of where to start wikipedia'ing...google image failed me! Have some Rep.

Update: I input "Andromeda" and galaxy, into the galaxy map navigation search box but only came up with a similar spelt single star (headed in the right direction but not far out on the fringe). So I scrolled the map out toward this possible (likely) Andromeda Galaxy. I continued for some time... and then some more.... all populated stars, then stars themselves became thin, until none appeared, still this galaxy did not increase in size. So it must be way far out in the expanse of inter-galactic space for sure! This makes it almost certainly another galaxy outside of our own, and with all the above input, my money is on the Andromeda Galaxy...... perhaps one day in E-D we might be able to go there. Once I'd scrolled out (toward) this galaxy, when I gave up, I turned the map to face our entire galaxy (just a mist by this stage) and hit the return "journey" home....now that virtual trip was visually stunning!!!
