Ship Builds & Load Outs Help with build for Combat

I have been playing a little for the last 2 weeks. I played during Beta - but only really traded.
Mostly been trading (as I knew how to do that in Beta), done a bit of exploring.
tried mining for about an hour (it sucks)
I currently have 10m credits.

Was going to give some combat a try. As I would like to build up some rep.
Wondering if someone can give me some pointers on a build for about 5-7m credits. Maybe a little more (Want to keep enough to go back to a T6 & trade if money runs low).

Tried reading the forum, but not sure what is relevant & what is not with 1.3
I guess I need a ship that cut through shields & then bang out the power plant.

Was going to go for an ASP - but thought I will be better off with a cheaper ship & better outfitting. Rather than a shiny nice ship & a pea shooter for guns.
Just not sure where to start!

Stick to a ship with 50T+ for now, go to Diso in solo mode, buy 50T rares and sell them 160ly+ away for around 800k profit then head back with a commodity with 1k/T profit. This is only available for a few more days. Do that a few times and you will have more choices for a combat ship. The Asp has served me well as a trader/explorer and is ok against NPCs but will need 20M+. I tried the new Imp Courier but had trouble in combat. The other 2 new DB ships are in your price range but I've a feeling they won't replace my fat Asp anytime soon either.

My opinion on the best combat ships, I have not played Courier/Diamondback but have experience in all other ships.

Cheapest: Eagle
Mid range: Viper
High end: Vulture/ASP/Clipper
Enthusiast: FDL/Python/Anaconda

Personally I recommend starting in the Viper and having fun with the cheap re-buy, it also teaches you how to power manage your weapons and shield cell banks etc. Once you feel confident with combat trade up to a high end ship.
Vulture is as good as it gets really without spending a ton of cash, startup cost and re-buy can be substantial though. If you want a one size fits all ship so you can outfit for trade and then later on sell those cargo racks and outfit for combat then the Clipper/ASP are the choices for you.

This can help get you started looking at builds. Heres a Viper build I can advise. Should be able to take on anything under a Python. Feel free to drop the mirrored armour if you want to.

PVE is very different to PVP though so consider that when building your ship.

You have enough money for a fully-kitted Viper.

Start with A-grade powerplant, thrusters, distributor and shields, d-grade sensors and life support. Then pick your weapons to see how much power you have left after fitting those. Finally, consider a KWS, chaff, shield booster and/or scb (probably not both) and an interdictor. Fuel scoop if you have room, but not mandatory.

Avoid: bulkheads, hull reinforcement, anything b-grade. Mass is crucial on a Viper, keep it low.

Consider A-grade sensors if you have the power, but D is OK in most cases. A is just nice to have.

The Diamondback Scout is a great combat ship certainly a lot more expensive than the Viper but it's much better range, armour and 2 extra utility mounts more than give it the edge, although the Viper sounds better ;)
