Help with Fines/Bounty

Been hauling freight around the Pleiades on and off for the past few weeks, pretty much allied with everyone. Real life sidetracked me,haven't logged into the game since last Friday, completely forgot that I have 500+ tonnes of various mission cargo onboard belonging to various factions out here.

If I cancel these missions and dump the cargo, can I just pay the fine? Or I have I left it too long? Don't think I've ever been in this situation over the past few years.

Cheers

This is a point I really wish FDev would take to heart. From a gameplay perspective I don’t really see the value of mission timers. When you are actively playing the game they never add excitement or valuable gameplay. However, they do make it hard to walk away from a game session when we might have to because life happens. Indeed players are penalized if they have to cut short a gaming session and I really wish that were not the case.

I’d argue the single biggest change FDev could make to the game to make it more friendly to those of us who are busy IRL is to either eliminate or to vasty increase the allotted time for mission timers. I don’t know how many times I’ve left really good missions on the board near the end of a play session simply because I wasn’t sure when I’d have time to login next.

I’d go as far to say that game companies have a responsiblity to put features in their game that encourage real-life/gaming balance. Additionally, I could never consider doing a mission to Colonia on a 3 week timer. I’d be under the gun then feeling pressure to login when I might be busy with other important things.

I think you have one week after canceling the mission to pay the fine before it turns dormant. At least that's what this chart says. (a bit dated, does not cover pf-bounties).
You can sell the mission cargo at a black market, that should cover most of the fines.

Edit: No, wait. It turns into an active bounty (if you don't pay it), should have checked the chart. It would turn into an dormant fine if you would die during this week

to reduce your loss. first go to a station with a black market. while docked dump the missions. go to back market and you can now sell the goods your holding. pay the fine, or not. ;)

Since you can recover from any penalty, I don't see a problem with mission timers. I cannot imagine I'd be too thrilled about paying someone to ship my merchandise and it just disappearing.

Timers are the reason I skip on long range passenger missions. I play on irregular basis and never know how long the break between session will take. So I keep with quick deliver/transport missions and in that case timers are irrelevant. Ending playing session with all missions handed in also helps so I don't have to worry about timers running while I'm away. Sadly, RL issues can butt in at every moment and there's nothing you can do. Luckily nothing in game is permanent so apart initial credit/rep hit you can still repair the damage and restore your balance and faction standing.

Thanks everyone, I had assumed the fine timer starts as soon as the mission timer runs out, was not aware it starts from the point you cancel the failed mission. Didn't want to deal with bounty hunters constantly harassing me.

I'll cancel the mission on my next session and promptly pay any fines.

Cheers

Be aware tho that *some* missions will make baddies spawn after your rear when mission is dropped. They're not a persistent threat tho, and you can just run away from them if you so desire.

Timers are why I look at the mission time allotted before taking the mission in the first place. As a general rule I don't take on anything I can't finish during my session.

Of course, I do understand, Life has a way of broadsiding you when least expected and things will happen some times.

And the general consensus here is correct - sell off former mission cargo at a Black Market to reduce your losses.

Pretty sure you can cancel then sell the cargo on a Black Market (It will be stolen goods at that point) and that should cover any fines with a bit of a bonus if lucky.

Edit: A mechanic to return the mission goods to where you got them if a mission is cancelled would be nice. That would stop any fine and you'd be no further ahead or behind.

You can still be a bad boy and sell them on the BM, but that should generate a bounty rather than a fine. "This'll teach you to steal from us!!!"
