Help with Images on Wikipedia Page of Elite Dangerous

The Wikipedia page of Elite Dangerous has a small, outdated screenshot of the game. It doesn't represent the current version. The Elite Dangerous logo was also removed.

They remove screenshots uploaded by normal users, because they want a GFDL and the CC-SA-3.0 license. This can only be provided by Frontier, because they are the copyright holder.

Frontier has to approve publication under the terms of this page. For example: "Wikimedia has received an e-mail confirming that the copyright holder has approved publication under the terms mentioned on this page"

The Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic License is not suitable for Wikipedia.

By comparison, the Eve Online wikipedia page has multiple high resolution images with GNU Free Documentation License which are approved by the developer CCP.

See here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eve_Online_-_Empyrean_Age_screenshot.jpg

I hope someone at Frontier notices this and can fix the Wikipedia page.

Maybe this needs to be in the suggestions section, reported for someone to pass on, or a direct email to support?

It'll get buried here pretty quick, and it's a weekend, so I doubt FDev are even at work. Lol

Good luck!

Moving it to the suggestions forum?

That's what mods do to kill threads.

FD staff do at least show a small amount of interest in the main forum. Never in the suggestions forum.

I would have thought Frontier should be all over this, it promotes the game as well as gives them an opportunity to give further encyclopaedic details about.

Should keep, Ed busy for a few weeks! ;-)

Good idea. Moved to suggestions and feedback. :D

I've also passed on the request to our marketing team regarding the logo imagery.

It doesn't matter how many of the development team sees this post. The idea is so obviously a good one. And the correct person has seen and noted it.

Reps all round!

It may make sense to explicitly open up some advertising imagery like those found on the "Media" page under a sufficiently free license, although I feel that Wikimedia are overreaching in requiring any content to be commercially reusable, so no "NC" license types. (I guess they need that permission to run their their annual begging sprees.)
