help with Mic and general voice comms on pc

Ok, I just tossed a "Plantronics Gamecom 780" in the trash. I bought a few days ago on Amazon as a refurbished model so it was really cheap. Sound was nice, but I could never get the mic working in game- it works fine out of game because I tested it a whole lot with text to speach etc.. on the PC.

However, no matter what i did in game, nobody could hear me as though I wasn't there at all. I could hear others perfectly.

So besides my mic problems, the main issue is that I hate the headphones pushing against my head -I wear Glasses- so if you also wear glasses, you'll know what bothered me. It was so uncomfortable that I started to cut out slots in the foam so my glasses would fit under without the pressure, but it didn't work. So in the trash they went.

Is there a mic and or headset available out there that will fit more like a blue tooth ear piece for a cell phone, so that I can talk with others in game, but hear the normal ED sounds through my great surround sound speakers?

Something that would JUST deal with Voice comms but NOT any other sounds?

What do you do for hearing comms and speaking back, AND hearing sounds you need to hear around the house?

I use an Audio Technica USB2020+USB mic on a stand on a separate table next to me and either a set of Senneheiser studio cans or A50 wireless phones.
Works great. The mic is excellent for use in gaming and wee bits of recording work. I don't like headset-mounted mics, they never sound as good as a good dedicated mic.

I just use a cheapo Logitech headset for mic - works great. I still play sounds through my speakers, and if I use the DK2 it fits pretty well.

:D I don't have a solution, but you're not the only one, mate!

I use a web cam and/or a Creative gaming headset in other games. Both work great on Teamspeak and Skype. I've been using a Soundblaster card until fairly recently, took it out of the rig and use the motherboard's native support now. Again, all working just dandy...

...until I try to use EDs built in comms. I'm using top notch kit, proven in other games/applications and just can't get it to work in game. It might not be your headphones.

Thanks! I just purchased a "MicFlex" USB gooseneck mic. I figure I should be able to have it fairly close to my face while playing and using a push-to-talk I'll still be able to use my surround sound without headphones. ARRRGH it's a First World Problem, I know...but frustrating!

I use a Plantronics .Audio 400 DSP, it is great and very light. Not tried voice comms in Elite though, by the sounds of it you are not the only one that is experiencing problems.

I should declare an interest - I work for Plantronics. Sorry the used Gamecom 780 didn't work out for you, comfort is very much up to personal preference and you need to chose a wearing style that suits you. If you'd like to PM me perhaps I can be of further assistance.

Corsair 1500 Over ear cans, Anything corsair is just reliable and sturdy. 60 Australian dollars.

Stay the heck away from the Logitech G930. It uses a 2.4 Ghz signal and always breaks up. I had one before I switched to an A50 that uses a 5.8 Ghz signal that never gets interference.

Hi! I have no beef with Plantronics- I just haven't worn full headphones in a long time, and of course wearing glasses never was an issue listening to music. It's just that now of course, I'm attempting to "See" as well as listen...so the glasses thing is an issue. I didn't want to suggest that the headphones were crap, I simply ruined them by cutting up the foam and thus they were no good for anything after that. :)

Thanks for the reply though!

I work for Plantronics.

:D any idea why my Savi 740 now only shows a red light and doesn't show the charging light no matter what on earth I try to do with it? New battery, new power supply, new USB cable, new modular / jack cable to the Cisco phone. No change :(

Right click on the volume icon in the taskbar and go to 'Recording Devices', now pick your mic and open up the properties. Now go the Advanced tab and uncheck 'Allow Applications to take exclusive control of this device' Hit apply and that should solve your problem, if Elite is running you may need to restart it.

Wouldn't just plain old iPhone headphones work? They have a little mike in them for hands free when you're talking. Seems that would keep your glasses from being interfered with (low tech and cheep too).
