Help with Settings for Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Stick and Throttle in Elite Dangerous game

I'm a 60 + years old U.S. Navy Disabled Veteran and I'm trying to set up my Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Stick and Throttle in the Elite Dangerous game. Can anyone help, or turn me in the right direction?

Though I'm 12 years older, like you I'm having issue trying to adapt my Warthog and Throttle also. Though I never has any issues with flying or driving an SRV with my Warthog and throttle when playing ED. Trying to get all the DLC's binding is making me crazier than I naturally am. I've put in down for now, gonna wait a while to see what others may bring to the table. We two can't be alone in this dilemma.

Well, we can definitely tell we were not born into this electronic age. These young people pick up on this stuff whereas us old people are overwhelmed. I sure hope someone can help us, I have a lot of money invested in DCS and other software that use the HOTAS controls. I tried using the TARGET software, I'm lost. No clue of what I'm doing. GOOD LUCK.

you can find thrustmaster Target profiles for warthog and ED here https://support.thrustmaster.com/en/ - sorry youll need to search for your stick manually - not sure how well target profiles work and imho will be harder to reference in game if your trying to find the key you need for x y or z

or for best restults and assuming youve installed the windows drivers for your warthog you should be able to select the default keybinds in options > controls > click the box next to presets, your stick presets should be in the list.

NB: if youve not installed the drivers they can be found under the linky above

I am also a 60+yo Commander and do not have my Warthog HOTAS fully sorted for Elite Dangerous either, mainly because it is so much more complex than using an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. However ...
O7, hope that helps.

Well. I'm 80+ years and agree that we were not born to this electronic age - we invented it! So in fact we should know better than younger generations how to deal with this kind of gadgets.

To answer OP, after installing drivers I suggest you first load default keybinds as suggested above. You will soon notice that you need to make some changers to default keybinds and add few new ones. It is straigthforward to do it. Just open the controls window, and find the operation you want to change/add. Then select the right column, klock left mouse key and then the key in your HOTAS you want to bind to that operation.

I'm the same when it comes to the "TARGET" program. I only use it to shut off my throttles LED light, when I loose electricity, which where I live in Mexico happens a couple times a day.
I've been informed that there are programs such as one called reWASD that one can use to reconfigure any and all controller's to match the configs utilized on a key board and mouse. Though the whole program cost 20 bucks, there is a smaller free sample one can use. It could just as well be written is any other language than English, cause I've know idea how to make it work. LOL

I've tried using various sites that offer configs on can copy paste, I've tried Target, and in the case of ED and not the new DLC. ED configs in the controller section using only a couple of reconfigurations. The default Warthog works really well. It's the enormous number of configs that the new DLC brings to the table that's the issue.

As you stated, most are out of date and with the new DLC still in alpha, gonna be awhile before there updated. Until then, it's normal ED for me.

Sorry but I'm not part of the "WE" invented it. Though I had a tax prepare business for a vast number of years until I sold it and retired. I wasn't the first but eventually had to adapt to using a computer opposed to the ole' fill out the actual forms. I had to hire a "GEEK" to install the tax software and show myself and my employee's how to utilize it. What little I learned in regards to programing using "Basic" and then "Extended Basic" was short lived when the technology was growing faster than I could keep up with. Much like my learning how to maintain my cars engine in regards to tune up and various replacement of part in the ole' days. With everything being dependent today on computers, I have to take my auto to a reliable service center for even the most simplest reasons.
I do agree that Frontier's controller section has the best defaults one can choose from in the list of games I have play. It is next to none in my book.
But the vast number of configs evolved in the new DLC, is to me and apparent some other's a bit over whelming.

I have no issues with paying for the prepay Alpha and if fact, purchase the wrong one got a refund, added a few bucks and bought the correct one for testing. I love ED and paying a few bucks extra and not utilizing the alpha is basically a donation to Frontier, it helps to keep the light on. LOL

After every thing is said and done, and Odyssey goes live. I've no doublt there will be some configs one can copy which will assist me. Until then ED itself still works.

woops thought you were talking for odyssey for the on foot part as there is nothing better than kb+m imo for any fps
followed closely by a game pad...………. a hotas should not even be on the menu apart from just avatar movement
when it comes to aiming and shooting mouse is king
that's just my opinion anyhoot

Ooops... you were talking of the new Odysssey alpha. I thought erradiously that problem was ED Horizons bindings to HOTAS system. My fault.

You say that you are not part of the "we inventedit", and then tell that you are now part of the dev. group of Odyssey! Yes, playing alpha version you are participating to the development of the game. Developing an new game is not just writing the code. It is a lot of other things, and your part in this development is find bugs, bring new ideas to the game etc.

I agree STRONTIUM DOG that HOTAS is not the best way to play Odyssey alpha. It is much easier to use keyboard and mouse to it. There are even in ED Horizons some function which is better to use mouse than HOTAS system (SRV turret, FSSS, Adv. Planetary Scanner ). I've also noticed that at least the most default bindings are made for players who are combat oriented. Players that like more exploring and mining, need little different settings in their HOTAS.

need a little different settings in their HOTAS
see the binding guide top of this sub forum to rename\save and have multiple different setups pre stored in your in game preset pull down menu

a very basic suck eggs statement in case its not obvious to some
1 ensure your hotas is recognised in windows devices 1st
goto your elite controls section find thrust forward click in the box and press escape erasing the current value for whats there
click in box again and press what you want to thrust forward weather a keyboard key a joypad or hotas
N.B axsis inputs are analog so only stick or throttle inputs go there ie not button presses
click apply down the very bottom to make the new binding save
if all goes well you will have remapped what you want to thrust forward
righty ho only a few more controls to rebind then ;)

Yes, I've used your suggestions in that very good post. I've already 2 different settings for my 2 different HOTAS systems, and need another when VKB delivers their Gunfighter MK III SCG stick.

Because I do mostly exploring, I don't need different settings for combat/mining. That may change if I one day start chasing Thargoids. My combat rank is now only expert, so that is not happening soon.

OP, there two excellent Elite Choices.

Long story short, if you don't like all the mapping choices, change your binds accordingly, otherwise it does soup to nuts.

A parallel but slightly less functional by choice I believe is

I will second the suggestion for ‘droids configuration. I’ve been using it with my setup for several years. in fact, I likely do not have the latest version. That being said, it works with the latest version of ED and space legs. I have an xbox controller that i use for the system scanning. while i could use that for the FPS in spacelegs, I prefer to move to the KB/mouse for that.

It takes a bit of time and practice to get all the controls down, but by now it is mostly muscle memory for the things i use constantly. there are tons of things i don’t recall how to access in the profile ^_^
