Help with Starting in Oculus Rift

I downloaded and started up the game. I have the xbox controller connected and recognized by Oculus. When I try to start the game, I get past the enter name, enter ship name, but then can't start the game. The xbox controller does not seem to do anything. I can highlight training or options by looking at it, but I can't select anything. What am I missing? Thanks.

You might have to select 'advanced controller' in the game options as your input. I'm pretty sure I had to do that when I started using my XB controller. That was a few years ago now so I'm probably wrong.

Thanks. But how do I select the options? I can highlight it, but I can't select it. Is there a way to change the options out of the VR?

Just boot the game up without your headset plugged in and use your mouse, as I remember people saying oculus home was starting automatically when they booted up a game.

EDIT: You will also want to change the graphics setting to VR low/med/high/ultra from the graphics quality drop down, and maybe tweak SS and HMD Quality (depending on your hardware). You dont have to do this without your headset plugged in, just thought I'd mention it. :)

Actually I have the same problem as well and still couldn't solve it. It doesn't show xbox controller option there. There are only "Keyboard only", "Keyboard and mouse", "Joypad", "Custom" and "Empty" options. I downloaded a binds file for xbox controller from internet, selected it in the game menu but still doesn't work. I tried to change a few controls manually and when I did that, these controls worked on my controller. So, it seems I need to change all the key settings one by one for my controller but it's really hard. How can I find a working "binds" file or enable xbox controller option in the game? Googling for 3 days to find a solution but no luck.

Just in case you missed it (i did the first time,) the controls 'presets' drop down is pretty big and you have to scroll up (on mine anyway) on the drop down to find 'advanced controller'.

I noticed it but it's not there. I found some presets on internet, downloaded and copied them to the binds folder, saw the options in the game but none of them worked. When I select them in the game, it shows the controls as "[]". I also tried it with my PS3 controller and it doesn't work too. Please note that both my PS3 and Xbox One controllers work perfectly on all the other games.

Now I'm trying to uninstall/reinstall the game and if it doesn't work too, first I will create a ticket, then if it's necessary I'll have to set the controls one by one. My other concern is, what if I do that and the game doesn't recognise my custom controls too after the next update like it does for the presets which I downloaded from internet.

I wonder if OP could resolve his problem.

I think the trick is to select "Default Context" for your controller selection (not gamepad, etc)

I play with the XBOX One controller on two different PCs (one with Rift) with that setting it works exactly like the XBOX (except the SRV is slightly different)

I also always make sure my XBOX Controller is plugged into the PC before starting Elite, and if I alt-tab out of Elite sometimes alt-tabbing back in doesn't enable the XBOX controller - I actually have to select Elite from the task bar using the mouse for the controller to work - sometimes.

PS - I also gave up on the wireless XBOX dongle that comes with the Rift and plug my controller in via usb. For some reason my controller won't always sync with the wireless dongle.

Thanks so much!

I disconnected the Oculus, made sure the XBOX1 controller was plugged in, started the game in 2D, and was able to set the controller. I reconnected the Oculus and started playing. I appreciate all the help.

I did note that during the tutorials, some of the commands that I was told to do were incorrect. I never did figure out how to change weapons or power focus. I'll look that up when I play again. My son has been excited about the Oculus and I have found my computer time to have dwindled since I acquired it.
