Horizons Help with X 56

For anyone wanting to setup the slider just follow this video for the x55. Thanks to CMDR Grey Wolfe for passing this on to me

Sorry, but that tutorial is bad. All it shows you is how to bind the slider that it presses the same button once, when you move the slider. Any other button can be used the same way, press once to switch something on, press a second time to switch it off. It works, but it wastes the actual potential of the slider. Of course, if you want to bind a "normal" button like "I" in that tutorial, that's really the best you can do, but there are much better alternatives.
.
What i rather use is just binding the slider to "Button Press" and bind an off button there. A good choice is stuff like "Pause", "Print" or "Scroll Lock". Very few things actually use those buttons, and "Pause" is the most neutral of them all. This allows you to just move the slider and the throttle keeps the key pressed for you, no matter what else you do.
.
How i use that i already explained before: Flight Assist OFF is bound as "Hold" in my configuration. So if i want to go FAOFF, i have to hold the button. One of the two buttons for FAOFF is bound to the pinkie key on the Joystick, so i can quickly enable FAOFF for a turn, then let go and am back in FAON. When i want to stay in FAOFF i move the slider on the throttle. The throttle then keeps the key "Pause" pressed, which is bound as the second key for FAOFF in my configuration.
.
In contrast, what the tutorial is showing would only allow me to either have FAOFF set as toggle and the slider would switch it on and off, just like any other button could, or i would have FAOFF set as hold the way i do, and the slider gives me like a quarter of a second of FAOFF.
.
I guess for the flight simulator the tutorial demonstrates, that's the very best application, but thanks to the better customisation of keybindings which Elite Dangerous allows us, using the method of that tutorial is not helpful and wastes the sliders true potential.

Sounds inconvenient. What do you do when you want FA off and at the same time fire your weapons? Your index finger can only be on one of those two buttons.
.
I actually bound "deploy/store weapons" to that button, as this never conflicts with my trigger. FA OFF on the other hand I have bound to pinkie finger button, as that means I just tighten my grip a little and go FA OFF, without affecting what my index finger and thumb are doing.
.

Change the button mode from "hold" to "toggle". Then you can press-and-release and it will toggle between FAS on and FAS off. Totally convenient and easy to reach when flying. I bound the right-pinkie to "boost" but am considering changing it.

Please consider what I wrote on the way of using the slider just above. If you have an X-56, and this is the basis of this thread, there never is a reason to change to "toggle" for FA off, as the slider does this job perfectly well. My options are set to "hold", with one button on the joystick being used the classical way, and the slider "holding" the other button for me when I need that. My question was very specific to that one pilots suggestion, which does not include the "toggle" setup.

Ooopos. Please excuse my reply, I mixed up the references there. It was you who I asked on it, so thanks for the answer. I still prefer my solution, but I understand where you are coming from.

Problem with X-56 Setup

Hello all,

I am having a mare getting my X 56 setup. The bindings keep changing :( I have searched for a setup guide for ED but found nothing. Maybe because this is a new device. So any users can help?

I want to use the right analog stick for forward and reverse thrusters. But if I try and change anything, my throttle stops working. I do have a USB3 powered hub for the X 56 so power is not an issue. I did install both drivers first then the software.

What I would LOVE is for the slider switch on the throttle to be programmed for reverse throttle. And the the right analog stick to control forward and reverse thrusters. And what settings in game to use as I am not sure.

Thanks for any help. I am CMD Papa if anyone wants to know and look forward to trying some open and kicking some greafers butts. I did have the X 55 but the buttons stopped working.

Take care all

I am having a similar problem. My x 56 loses its bindings or calibration every time I start the computer. Sometimes it doesn't even see any axis. The HUD software creates more problems for some reason. I have done all the steps regarding a clean install, Axis resetting, etc. Yet every time I start the computer the bindings change. Have you found a solution? I am able to get the x-56 working after I play with the settings but that's frustrating to do every time.
