Elite / Frontier Help

Hi All,

I am in need of some help. I want to get back into playing elite but do not know how or where to start. My PC is running windows vista, is there a version I can use? If so where do I get it? I am not IT orientated can anyone help???

As a big fan of the sequels I recommend:

FE2 - DOS version (superior to the one mentioned by Steve, but requires DOSBox to run on modern machines)

DOSBox - required for FE2[/quote]

Steve and T.j have already posted all the other links you may need, including newly remastered 3DFFE version, which, albeit unfinished, features almost completely modern graphics.

Alternative versions of original Elite

The place to start is the original BBC game - learn to dock and fight! Apart from the sequels there are also several versions of the original Elite with their own quirks:

Elite-A, a modified BBC version that allows you to fly different ships, plus a few extra features.

Elite Plus, a very smooth PC conversion available here:

and of course ArcElite, available here with advice on how to emulate an Archimedes. Features include space missionaries who bombard your ship with prophetic messages, running battles between police and criminals (better than similar encounters in Frontier).

The killer app: you can download a mod for ArcElite here that gives your ship fluffy dice and a bumper sticker.
