Newcomer / Intro Helping me out with keyb+mouse bindings and with hotas choose

Oi mates.

A few stuff about me:
My name is Connor and im from Greece.
I like RTS/Turn based (my favorite genre) and RPG games.
Finally, i was in search to play one space game. I was looking for a space sim/exploration/etc from ... 2012.
I was between Starpoint Gemini series, no mans sky, eve online, Sins of a Solar Empire, Star Citizen and of course ED.
The primary "features" that i was looking for that kind of game was (among others), a camera inside the spaceship (cockpit control) and a realistic universe.
I ended up with Elite Dangerous because i found is the game i want for that kind and whenever and if Starship Citizen been released, i'll give it a try.

So, lets get back to my problem now.
I dont know if the ED was ment to play with keyboard or with HOTAS in mind. For now i dont own a hotas so i want to give it a try with keyb+mouse.
Well. i gave it a try and two and three. But seems to me its unplayable with the default bindings. So i ended up for about 2 weeks now i watch streamers in twitch to play the game because i cant :p

And this is where your part begin. I want suggestions from you mates.
I saw one guy in this video that seems to be handle the ship very well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dD7LbDOaDU
And the bindings he have is those:

I didnt understand at keys "F" "X" what he have. i didnt find option for the "thrust idle" and "silent running". Can u understand what he means?
Also are those binding ok or you thing some other config is better?

And the second one:
In time i want to buy a hotas but my butget is 120-180 Euro ($145-$220). In this range i found the t16000m and the X52/X52 Pro.
For what i read in reviews and what i saw in some yt videos, they have each other adv and disadv.
The m16000m from what i hear and read is more precise and the build quality is a level + from X52 pro, but x52 pro has all the buttons u need for ED and in the matter of pressision isnt that bad, but still behind the t16000m.
Also i read about dual sticks. Are they worth? What's better, a dual stick config or hotas? (or keyb+mouse)

Sorry if I have bored you and thaks for reading this.

'X' means he has a key to set the throttle to zero. It basically stops the engines.

At 'F' Silent Running mode reduces the visibility of a ship to others, allowing it to remain undetected and making it harder to be targeted.

I've got a T16000m stick and it's fine.

The thing to do with bindings is to spend a lot of time going into options/controls changing things and checking in the tutorials and the game whilst you are still in the starter sidewinder until you are happy.

I play with an oldish X52 Pro which is just fine, reliability was supposed to have become an issue with the previous supplier Madcatz but that might be improving under the new supplier Logitech, hopefully.

Silent running is probably under miscellaneous or flight miscellaneous, it shuts down your ships radiating of heat generated on board to try to hide you from enemies the downsides are that in space getting rid of heat is an issue, which is why the shuttle used to open its cargo bay to expose more radiators, so to reduce the heat you are generating and not getting rid of which is cooking you your shields are switched of which leaves you vulnerable.

I'm primarily an FPS gamer, so I configured my layout similar to what I used in FPS games like Battlefield (where you'd have a vehicle also).

W - Forward Thrust
S - Reverse Thrust
A - Yaw Left
D - Yaw Right
Q - Thrust Left
E - Thrust Right

X - 0% Throttle
\ - Thrust Up
CTRL - Thrust Down
Left Shift - Boost

R- Flight Assist
F - Cargo Scoop
T - Target Ahead
H - Target Highest Threat
G - Target Next
B - Target Previous

J - HyperSpace/Supercruise
Y - Jump Next Destination

Z- Shield Cell Bank
C - Chaff
V - Heatsink
L - Landing Gear
Delete - Silent Running
End - Eject Cargo

I should note I have a Logitech G502, so I have a fair few buttons on that in-use.

Scroll wheel up/down - Cycle Target Modules
Scroll Wheel Tilt left/right - Previous/next Fire Group
Scroll Wheel pressed in - Head Look
Left Mouse - Primary Fire
Right Mouse - Secondary Fire
G9 (next to LMB) - Hardpoints deploy/retract
G5 (Thumb button) - Landing Gear
G4 (Thumb button 2) - Silent Running

And I can't recall the rest.

I have the pip/power management defaulted to the arrow keys, but as I have a Logitech G19s Keyboard, I have macro keys, so Full power to Engines is set to G9 and so on.

To be fair, if you play RPG, and you are very used to your key layout in that, then try and configure ED to things that are as similar in use as you can get, like sprint=boost etc.

In regards to HOTAS vs KB+Mouse, I hear a lot of the Pro PVPers use KB+Mouse, whereas people that use HOTAS mention it helps their immersion (damn you Yamiks) and has more versatility thanks to buttons on-hand etc.

The default controls put roll on the mouse X-axis. This is a terrible idea.

In options > controls > mouse, switch the mouse X-axis to yaw, and put roll on the A and D keys.
