Here's an idea for the Group Mind to Consider.

What with all this talk about Non-Consensual PvP, How about if Gibled and turreted weapons remain as fixed weapons if firing on another member of the Pilot's Federation (i.e. players)?

The only way you could get Turrets to work against other players is to have a multi-crew gunner. That would mean more people wanting crew to help defend them against attackers.

Opinions?

I'm pretty sure a bunch of content is designed for people to attack each other. How else do you blockade in open...

Not to mention that makes no sense RP wise. All NPC's are also parts of the pilots federation. Or I'm pretty sure they are.

Personally, I'm against it, mainly as it adds (IMO) unnecessary complications and takes away player volition. ED has too many abstract rules when it needs to be streamlined.

Most of the really dangerous weapons - rails, plasma, dumbfire FSD disruptors, frags - are either fixed already or don't lose too much utility from being switched.

So all this would do I think is widen the gap between a dedicated combat ship and a multirole.

Maybe if the redid ship costs and modeled it off the older games. I was going over some of it and it had a wider array of costs.

I am surprised.
I never perceived turrets and gimballed weapons to be the problem in Open.
Adding more weird artificial rules, like turrets refusing to be turrets, would be extremely annoying.

This and a couple of other threads have given me a strange hybrid idea for an "Almost-PvE" option.

1. A "PvP preference" flag which biasses instancing so that people with the same flag setting are usually instanced together.

"What's to prevent griefers from switching it off to get instanced with all the soft targets?", you ask?

2. If your flag is off, your weapons won't fire if you have a CMDR targeted.

So, not exactly a safe mode, and no immersion-breaking invulnerable targets, but encouragement to recognise others' preferences.

I'm not really advancing this as a serious suggestion but I think it's interesting to think about its implications and it would be easy for FD to implement.

So i'd have to scrap my T9 because of it's antisocial pilot :) ? My turrets don't do much, but i like to entertain the "non-consensual" attackers whilst my FSD cools, mostly just for appearances sake.
