Heroes of the Storm E-Sport scene effectively killed by Blizzard.

Yep, read the post a moments ago.
"We are setting up the game for a long-term sustainibility. We are also moving devs away from it and cancelling the championship."

I guess "Long-term sustainibility" for Actiblizzard means "If it's not costing much, we'll let the servers up. That's how kind we are to you"

Man, screw them, really.

IIRC in MMO games this is called going into "maintenance mode". But it's nice to see that more and more of those AAA game companies show their true face which means that they're not different to any greedy corporate b*stard outside the games industry. Can only be good for all those smaller or indie dev's.

One of my secret hopes is that all this.. stuff.. that's happening with Activision, EA, Bethesda, etc. will somehow wake up the sheeple that buy AAA games just for this ridiculous idea that AAA games are "better". You know, the "more budget=quality" mentality. People need to realize that these things are only better at screwing your over, for the last few years. That all these "gaming giants" do is they are taking famous IPs that used to be good and therefore constitute already established customers and making these IP a shameless cashgrab, abandoning them when people start to leave. And they have the nerve to be surprised.
I mean the HOTS were a low-effort product from the get-go. It was one of the games that showed Blizz's shift from leading the market to simply following market trends for a quick buck. But it wasn't bad.
Anyway...
So I hope they wake up and stop buing from these companies. And it will somehow spark a renaissance of indie gaming market. That devs will have to try hard to make a good game so people would buy it.

Yeah, I'm way too optimistic. All we need to do is to look at the film industry. It's the same thing. Remakes, sequels and crappy IP grabs.

2018 has been a great year for triple a game developers being massively exposed as the wolves under the wool that fooled the average gamer. Everyone in the know and who has been gaming for years knows how bad its been.

The new generation has started to wake up also as the shenanigans become more and more egrigous. Shine a light and spread the word. Stop supporting these companies.

It's an illusion that independent developers are any better. They are all just humans with their natural weakness for grabbing cash. ;)

If the trend continues all those who do not buy the hype and therefore make movies and games tank are sexist. mysoginsist and ofc angry WASP's.
Just look at the Twitter posts of the usual suspects. C'mon, you and me, we both know how that game is played.
The movie, comics and most part of the games industry suffering from a severe lack of self-reflection.

I don't think it's something as innocent as lack of self-reflection of authors, though.
I think it's calculated laziness and entirely intentional and therefore malicious.

I'm amazed that anyone is still so naïve as to think that any large company has concerns beyond their shareholders. We've seen this from every industry before the silicon valley companies appeared. Why did anyone think it would be different?

But you'd hope the games industry, where fans should mean a lot to a company, would be different. Games companies can maintain older games and still turn a sizable profit by innovating, keeping their community onside and not pumping a game full of needless DLC and pay to win mechanics.

After any industry becomes corporatized the customers transform into cows to be milked. Same happened with the music industry. I dunno why anyone thinks any industry will be special. Business just doesn't work that way.

Very true. At least both have some nice independents producing good stuff.

I read the link. All I could think was "anyone devoting their life to earning money coachng teams for one specific computer game is not that bright."

I seriously dont get it. Blizzard is a company, they make games to earn money. At some point they stop supporting older games and focus on new projects. Why is that evil? Why do gamers always feel so insanely entitled to everything?

where fans should mean a lot to a company,

well.. they don`t... all you need is a couple of paid youtubers and that`s all the fans you need

real fans are few, informed and demanding
the new mobile phone audience is plentiful clueless and easily impressed

for those new people it`s all good because they haven`t seen any better, also they don`t care, all they care about is that they have a phone and a game that are popular at the moment and that they do what others do so they belong and therefore feel safe

the majority of gaming audience today are people who 10 years ago would say that gaming is only for kids idiots and nerds... Nowadays they come to me to show me their poor quality settlers 1 clone in which they pay for every stack of wood with real money, and when I say that i don`t play those silly phone games they are like "dude get on with the times, everyobdy plays games now"... and I`m like: "yeah, precisely why i don`t"

The new generation has started to wake up

That is what i thought in 2007 when the first influx of new players started... "they are just new to this, their tastes will mature, they will slowly see through all the crap"... nope never happened and here we are in 2018 in a far worse situation with "pay real money for everything" grindy simplistic games galore

When was the last time Blizzard released an new good game to warrant abandoning their existing ones?
And how much longer will it take them to release it. Another two years at least, unless they're going to decide to abandon AA gaming altogether (which the announcement of Diablo Immortal and quotes like "We are moving our best developers to mobile" and "We're going to focus on Chinese market" suggest)

No, I think that existing customers of live service games ARE entitled to hold the devs accountable for cancelling their services.

Blizzard has always been slow in releasing games. Honestly, who cares if they release some mobile thingy in the meantine. I simply wont play it. There, drama fixed.
