Hey Diddly Dee an Explorers life for me

Wow this is fun. I never thought exploring could be so entertaining.
[...]
Its all about the expectation once the boom goes off, will there be a water world? will there be an Earth like. Quite often there is nothing at all! only the star.

Given the crack-like experience, I think we need Explorers Anonymous soon.

"Hi. My name is mnh and I'm an explorer. I just made pioneer and 30 mil in a 2000 system trip. Yesterday, I spent 8 hours straight getting back to civilization. In the end, I was just sick of it. Today, I'm craving to go back out. I need help."

;)

There really is some sort of tension building each time you jump.

I don’t know if it the anticipation of what you may find or that you’re getting one step closer to your goal destination.

Is it knowing that one slip and you can lose days if not weeks of data / progress in an instant?

Or maybe it that final gauntlet after days away when your ship is battered an warn.

I don’t know what it is but I am hooked and only 5k from Sag A and closing one jump at a time.

88% hull and counting

FOG KBAM

That's all I know. They can be scooped. The rest may be pretty, but like bikers say, Chrome don't get you home.

I'm 1300ly out, made a 600ly sideways step to see a spot, and now have changed directions slightly. From what I can see on my Current course, 30Kly is when the stars start to get too far between for me to jump. 32Kly is where they seem to stop. So I think at about 25K I will turn and start my way in another direction. If I make it that far to start my turn I will consider myself an explorer. Until then I am just looking.

Oh and as I was taught from a young age, Never pass up the opportunity to take a pee... err, I mean Scoop. It may be your last.

Lol. FOG KBAM needs to be an explorers call sign, if you pass another explorer, one texts FOG the other KBAM. I say it every time I am looking at the Galaxy map, brain slowly gets into gear, yes, I can scoop there. I was watching the weather the other day, the forecaster said fog, and without thinking I said KBAM. Strange looks from the missus. Nutter....what have you done...:D

Lol, waterworlds are like buses, you dont see any for ages then two come along at once. I scanned four in total last night, made the trip worthwhile. I was going to download some images but they are too big.....anyone know of a decent programme to reduce the megabitage?

I just save it in Paint as a .png guess if that's still too big, maybe a jpeg

I have decided to shoot off into the black. My clipper is having a clean, so I am off in an Asp, towards the plaeides...ish. Quick question...how do I know how much data I have gathered?

Would the log in Slopeys BPC tool not log each system? Failing that, the Cmdr's Log has a notes section you can anotate.

Finally, that "blank" screen, between your legs, should be an access screen to all the things only accessible from dock. But perhaps that's too 33rd century?

Yes, Slopeys BPC will do it. I currently log everything using pen and paper. I just dont know how much it is worth. It was an issue when I first started out, but now I am more into the pure exploration thing.

I think exactly the same thing! "Will there be any interesting... OHHH, there's a blue one!"
All I know is that I'm grinding away for credits with little variation in targets and high risk if I don't shut off thrusters the second I enter a system. I'm going for credits, plain and simple.

For images, I use Batch Image Manipulation Plugin for GIMP to format convert a whole folder at once.

CRAP!! I got lazy, jumped into a binary and now my hull is at 34%. I am going to have to limp home to repair. I will sell the data, re-fit and then go off on another jaunt.

I was scanning a system yesterday & it had 1 earth-like planet & 3 waterworlds, 1 was a terraform possibility. I'm still enjoying my trek out...hull at 95%, my stupid fault, i will keep starting up the hyper cruise jump while im still scooping...doh!

Made it home to Empire space. I got interdicted 8 times on the way back in yahoo territory. HIP 11241 was the closest, had to be the most careful docking I have ever done. Sold my data, made about 2.5M credits with loads of first finds.

I will now do some trading in my Clipper, see what 1.2 offers and then shoot off back to the black.

What was your flying style across the bubble? I did it on my way out the other day, Eco plot and kiss scopped every star.....took over an hour to do 600ly, but did'nt get interdicted once, and arrived in the void with full tanks........not being cheeky, serious question as I will be coming back soon, and I'm curious as to why I got out "scott free" and you got stalked..........

Good Luck Whiterose

I too am venturing out after the Wings update (in case of any changes that might affect my choices).

I haven't plotted my route yet, where are you heading?

All 8 interdictions were between 400 and 500 LY out as I was scooping. After that I didnt have any. Scooped when I could, and when I saw an NPC enter just legged it. The last 100 I just hyperspaced as soon as I jumped in and the FSD had cooled down. I used fastest plot. The key thing with HIP 11241 is it sticks out of Empire space and comming from the "East" is a nice system as it is very quiet. Fastest plot is quicker, but you do need to scoop more often, I needed to get back quickly, if I wasnt in a rush I would have used Eco plot.

Somewhere off the beaten track, out to the rim probably. I am not bothered with nebulas, rather go to the less touristy areas.

Well done for making it back.

I recently made it back from a 2000ly trip in my Cobra (can't afford the ASP).

I'm also waiting for 1.2 before setting off on the next big trip.
At the moment I'm scanning within 500ly killing any interdictions and loading up on USS's.

Will head back when my cargo is full. Have a black market to sell all picked out.

Still finding a few unexplored systems within 500ly.
