Hey DW

After much debate CMDR Space Monkeyz has set out in his recently Refitted Asp Explorer with the registered name "Barely Legal"( named for a accidental mishap involving some Imperial slaves in Federation Territory, all fines have been paid and this ship is now certified legal thank you very much) in a vain attempt to catch up to at least some of the fleet. I started playing this amazing game on 01 Feb and I missed the big send off but I would still like to generally follow your route. My ultimate goal being Beagle Point and then either taking the long way home( all around the rim) or circumnavigating the core.

Any tips on the best way to get connected with people or should I just consider this a solo expedition for now? I am not sure of the pace I can set myself, having done 2 minor exploration trips(7700 LY out and 6500 LY out) I have noticed since setting out that my pace has increased greatly as far as distance I can cover. I think this is mainly due to having a better idea on what is worth scanning and what is not so much. (Thanks to all the wonderful guides and this amazing community which I have had almost no interaction with, yet still has been invaluably helpful)

After one day of travel with only moderate exploration and no landings I am logging off for the day in system Aucoks OU-N C23-5 Approximately 2500 LY from Sol and heading in the general direction of Lagoon Nebula.

I was originally planning on doing a core run with some friends that I started playing this game with and then getting involved with the next big expedition but it seems I am the only one that has really caught the exploration bug( and I got it bad, believe me)so I decided to set out on my own and see who I could meet along the way.

I am playing in open all the time and would love to hook up with some people but I am not sure as how to do that or if it was too late to register with the fleet.

Any advice is appreciated.

Regards and see you out in the black somewhere(if all goes well),

Space

Since the fleet is now past the core, you can cut a corner and head via the Cats Paw nebula to catch up faster. If you stay 100-150LY above the galactic plane, you avoid the layer of unscoopable stars that you can come across.

If you make it to Beagle, you will be added to the roster before it is archived. In the meantime, have a read of the information in the 2nd post of the main DW thread.

You can also join the Discord chat, which will help you meet up with others.

Good luck Commander!

Course adjusted, thanks for the advice :p

Follow these two threads, the original posts are very good to find where the fleet is and where they are headed. Try to get onto the comms channels as mentioned above and you should find people. As I understand it there are about 3/4 private groups, some of which have a closed membership. There are also a number of people in Open play doing the expedition but significantly less than in the groups.
Once you get close to the currently active waypoint see if anyone on the comms channels (skype/discord etc) can get you into a group, if not as I said there are a bunch in Open that you can hang with. Best advice is to friend request everyone you see on the trip, soon you'll have a ton of green icons on your Galmap showing you where everyone is :D

Advice for getting there:
Be very very very careful with landings. If you don't have a shield you may wish to turn around now whilst you are still close to home because you will take some damage each time you land.
If you don't have a backup SRV the above applies as a significant number of people have lost the ability to get into their buggies and either dropped out or did a return trip to pick up more. It's worth sacrificing a bit of jump range instead of having to fly a 60,000Ly roundtrip
As above you can either follow the route and take it at a steady pace or cut the corner and try to catch up (or power through the waypoints if you have the playtime!).

With a good Asp it's easily possible to catch up in a weekend or two if you power it, although your eyes and joystick arm won't thank you for it :p

Thanks for this advice as well. I tried to rep you but apparently I have given you too much recently ^^. I have shields, a good AMU and 2 SRV and I don't plan on landing until a) I get to a waypoint where I can meet up with people or b) I see something REALLY interesting. I don't remember exactly(not logged in) but I think my jump range with a full tank is some where in the mid 32s.

My goal is to reach the core with the people on track to get there on March 5th and then keep powering through. I will reference those two aforementioned threads as advised and I thank you again for the advice.

If you have 32.x LY range when full, it may be worth collecting materials for a few basic FSD boosts at some point. They will only be needed on the final stretch to Beagle Point, so there's no panic.

Thanks, I guess I'm either too reppable or have been posting too often ^^
You should be fine then, probably about 11-15 hours gametime to get to the fleets current location depending on how much you scan and how optimally you jump. Just don't sweat it if you miss a waypoint or two, the meetups are pretty regular and there will be a lot of people hanging around Beagle point for a few days/weeks as the latecomers arrive :)

Also on my to-do list pretty soon since my 28.2Ly Anaconda is going to struggle soon - Yeah, 8 SRV's, A7 thrusters and 28 fuel limpets...because overkill is under-rated.

That's awesome, glad you've caught the bug!
As other CMDRs have said, it's definitely possible to catch up. Just might go crazy powering through it :p
If you want to keep up with the goings on while you're catching up, watch the forums and check out some of the video series. It might help you stay sane while you're jonking :)

Well that may be a problem. I seem to have an obsession with O/B/A star clusters. I am kind of glad that someone said I should skip Lagoon Nebula, I could literally spend days scanning ALL of those pretty blue dots. I'm not sure about optimal jumping but I plan on keeping a fairly brisk pace so hopefully that will make up for any sub-optimalness(new word!) in my jumps.

Yes yes. on the to do list. Going to eat up some LY first, if all goes according to plan I will be doing some landings in search of FSD boost materials on the far side of Sag A somewhere

Thanks haha, I like to listen to podcasts, or documentaries, or music. Been pretty sane so far on all my trips but I expect that even this one might give me a bit of the space madness.

Search for the "rock rats" if you want, they've been prospecting planets for minerals so you may be able to cherry pick where to land. :)

Good luck and see you on the other side!

Ended Day two at neutron star designation BYIEA EUQ WD-K D8-8 Just a little under 2 kylies away from WP #5 in NGC 6357. I am not doing so good with the not exploring and just honking. I find that if I see a Water World or other semi interesting/valuable object that a small part of my soul dies if I don't scan it, most especially if it is not tagged.

I think I will probably visit every O-type star in and around NGC 6357 because that's how I roll LOL

Still I feel like I am making pretty good time and I should be able to hit it pretty hard this weekend.

And oh hey look, I found Planet Hulk!
