Hey Frontier, from CMDR CCStonewall

Came here just to see if this was a topic of discussion, thanks for saying it! I've been playing since 2016, and while I do have the ability to play on PC, many of my friends don't. I've got friends who would love to play but don't because they know it's no longer being supported like the PC version. And I get that the base game is a fully realized game, with tons to do. But for those that love the game, seeing the PC version get all these new features, ships, narratives etc is just a huge bummer. It seems like Fdev has renewed their efforts to support the game after a few tough years, so in my opinion it would make sense to revitalize the console version. Especially considering they're making efforts to properly monetize the game. I think console gamers are much more open to live service games now than they were when the game originally released. So I feel like if they continue to add meaningful paid content, console players will buy it! I would. That's just my two cents.
I came here for the same reason. I just bought the game for a second time on ps store. Had the disc version on PS4 but got a digital PS5 when it launched. Hadn't played elite since like 2018 but wanted to check it out again. Had 500 hours in the game with a fully kitted conda for assassination missions and a krait mkll for thargoid battles. Thankfully I saved it in the cloud and could get all my ships back. Then I find out fdev stopped developing the console version 3 years ago! We all paid money for this game and you monetized it with ARX credits and they decide one day that it's not worth it to keep developing?! Like what? I would have never bought and played as much as I did if if I knew they would just abandon us. Can we please come together and demand that fdev at least give us the new ships and goals? I really don't care about walking around and all the other stuff on pc. Horizons is great how it is. Just continue the thatgoid storyline and give us some content please! We can't allow them to get away with this!

Agreed. some reasonably cookie cutter CG and Thargoid conflict zones in different (random?) systems with missions. No new assets, no new game play needed, just using what is available.
And they could at least give us the new ships. Not pre-built but at least be able to have access to them. It's so ridiculous.

New ships means new assets means new approval process for Playstation and Xbox. Too much work for them and thus highly unlikely.
Some new CG with existing assets should be possible though.

Maybe the new ships we have in Odyssey are designed for Live 4.0 engine.
And since they said they cannot keep developing and maintaining 2 code branches, no way they will rework them for Legacy 3.8

it is what it is and at least you have a fully playable game 🤷‍♂️

Yea but we all paid money with the promise of continued updates. Not "oh well it's just too much work so here's a big middle finger buy a pc." That's essential how they're treating us. I won't accept subpar quality from a developer that has more than enough means to produce results. They spent over a year working on 4.0 for consoles. Clearly all that time and money didn't hurt them too bad to just can it. If they can do cross platform on PC2 the way they did with pc and consoles, there's no excuse why they can't with ED. We all have hundreds to thousands of hours on console. It's inexcusable. I can't afford a gaming rig which is why I'm on console. They should have just kept ED a pc game from the beginning if they were just going to give up on consoles.

I don't think Odyssey would have ever run acceptably on the 4th gen consoles. Freezing them on the old version was a technical necessity. That doesn't explain though, why there's no 5th gen console version. Those should be able to run the game comfortably.

Personally I could care less about odyssey. I never felt the need to be able to walk around and build bases. I mean being able to walk around on star ports and carriers would be cool I guess. But the game was never built with the intention to be able to walk around, which is why I'm sure they're having so many issues with the coding for odyssey. It's breaking the core game. But anyway I'd rather just have fdev allocate a few devs to give us weekly CGs and continue with the thargoid story. And give us all the new ships like c'mon.

I think there is only one possibility how the console community could change the FDev minds and to start with some support and updates. Just discussing here will not change anything. We should make some kind of a petition and have hundreds of ED players to support it. Maybe they will change their decision to not support PS/Xbox any more. And they still have to run the Legacy version servers, so maybe it would be better for FDev to have a very small team to focus on consoles again. After I red all the commanders on this two pages, nobody wants Odyssey or other super big changes, just a regular updated for CGs, some ongoing narrative, new ships...

P.S. The question is, how many players still play the game on consoles or if it is realy dead now.

Ok, if petition is not allowed (I do not know what is wrong about it), how can we as a community let FDev know what we want the console support to start again to some extent?

We can start a change.org petition without sharing a link. Just post the title of the petition and we can look it up. If that's against forum rules that's just little suspect imo.

Edit: there's already a petition up there. Just search elite dangerous and you'll see one about resuming console development. Over 2,200 signatures already. I signed and chipped in $5. Let's make a push to really get this going!

They know, it's not a secret.
I understand they know, but I was thinking that if the community will push them more, they will do something... that's why I was talking about other way, how to show them, there is a lot players on consoles that want a bit more care compared to the actual dead legacy version.

K, I just signed the petition. I believe we are allowed to talk about them, but not post links to it. But it is really easy to sign. so why not sign it?

You're all here arguing about "profit" again.

FDev's adjusted EBDITA was £0.9m. What "profit" figure are you talking about?

They spent (£28.4m) on putting out non-console binfires so bad that they persuaded the auditor that they should be recognised as complete binfires rather than mild inconveniences.
