Hey guys. I came across some 21st Century advertising in the game

I'm busy engineering my ship but came across "Red Bull Gardens" in Picaurukan system. I didn't drop in because play time is very limited but is this a regular item? Are actual companies paying to advertise in the game? I think it's cool that if they are they create a sort of 3304 version of their products and place those at the stations. Gotta go, wife giving me stinky eye!

Don't think so. FD said that the ads around stations were only ever going to be for in-game companies.

I hope this isn't a precedent.

Just the name or is the RB company logo displayed there too ?
If not i'd say purely coincidental or perhaps a player named place as a KS reward.
Haven't seen any actual product placement in ED, and thanks for that.
Red Bull is a well known brand of course, but i'm sure if we dug into it, we'd find many other places in ED which share names with actual (lesser known) companies.

I hope rl companies are not advertising in game.
It'd be a red line for me...

Why?

I'd much rather have FDEV make company profit from in-game real world advertisements, than overpriced player MTX or development team operational expenses cuts.

As long as it fits the universe and we don't see commercials for the 2018 version of the Apple iPhone XS Max, I have no problem with it.

Besides, nothing can be worse than telepresence.

We should wait to see what new Alliance President Boris Johnson XXXIV has to say about it.

i actually would not mind limited product advertising... but again, would have to be tastefully done. (by tasteful i do not mean tasteful as in looks, i have no problem with it being garish if it fits with the flavour of the system) but tasteful as in products which may still continue to exist.

There are some companies today which have been in existence for well over 1000 years - a lot are in Japan - so i see no reason why coke and such like wont still be around in 100 years time.

IF there is an advert for the 2019 ford focus, or the Xbox1 X or nvidia 2080ti**** however then this would not be in keeping with the game

**** yeah i know.. you do not need to remind be about precedent being set etc!.

I'd rather companies just make quality products and sell them, rather than trying to manipulate me into buying crap I don't want. If they can't stay in business on merits of their own work they don't deserve to be in business.

Do you run a tiny DIY store in Grimsby?

The original Red Bull is actually from "The Last Unicorn". The drink came later.

I believe Red Bull is actually a rename of Krating Daeng, a Thai drink, which existed a decade before that movie. The translation for western consumers to English came after The Last Unicorn, but Krating Daeng means Red Bull.

Now that there are so many installations, there is going to be a running list of funny and interesting names.

Don't know why ED often use Purple in fraction names, so won't be surprised if there is a Purple Bull something....
