Hey! Where's my credit?!

So after eight-or-so months getting acquainted with the wonderful universe of Elite, I had grown bored with mining, delivery missions, and res combat. I decided, "Hey! Why not dust off that pretty Asp-x in my garage and take her for a looooooong spin?".

Fast forward to today. I finally found a system, far from the bubble, with no first-discovery attributions. Gleefully rubbing my hands together, I started scanning the heck out of that system. One problem- my name isn't appearing as "First Discovered By..... you, you awesome hunk of space manliness".

What am I missing here? When do I get my just reward and personal immortalization?

Also, general virgin explorer and memorable visits thread.

Also, I was smart enough to buy an AFMU before I left home. Unfortunately, I wasn't wise enough to realize that I needed materials to use it. Ugh. Worthless module, many ly from relative safety.

Also, the farther away I fly, the further I want to go. It's a new-found compulsion. Imma die for sure.

You can pick the materials up from planetside for the AFMU, you did take a buggy with you right?

I actually do have a scarab on board. Didn't realize I could gather materials with it. Please elaborate. :D

Ok - So when you scan a planet - look at the imformation gained for that planet - it will list the materials available on that planet and in the percentages availabe (how easy they will be to find)
So you have found a planet with the right materials (or at least some of them - do not hold out for the elusive planet with all the materials required - visit more planets)
Land on said planet - get out the SRV and start looking for the mats - using your radar.
There are a few threads in here explaining how to use the Radar - but essentail its easy - drive in a straight line looking at your radar until it starts showing lines and making a noise - then using the radar slowly pinpoint the location of the mats - you will not know what kind they are until you find the targetable rock and shoot it - once you have killed the rock, Mats will be left - open Cargo Scoop and pick them up

Rinse and repeat until you have the nessasary mats and quantites required to refil your AMFU, refeul you SRV, Boost your jump range etc

Hope this simplified explanation helps

A lot of threads about that but to make it short:

1) Scan landable planets
2) Check what materials are available (provided that you have a detailed surface scanner)
3) Check the gravity of the planet (high isn't a good idea to land on the 1st time you land)
4) Land on the planet of your choice, be careful with it.. a lot of people are not careful and crash on the planet the first time they land
5) Get out with your buggy and go for the signals that appear on the radar, you'll soon notice what is what
6) Shoot the rocks, open your scarab cargo bay and pick up the materials. Materials will get in your ship inventory even if you don't have a cargo hold
7) Oh and don't forget to refuel the scarab

There you go

Correction: you only need materials to refill the AFMU's ammo. To use the AFMU, you only need it to have ammo, so it's not worthless at all. You can restock that at either stations, or by using synthesis (which does use materials) to do it yourself.
