I played the original many many years ago, it was a seminal game for me.

Fast forward...couple of questions about this version:

a) In MP, will I be able to have a career with a ship and upgrades on it, money in my account etc etc, and find that all stays with me from server to server?

b) Will there be 24/7 servers on which I would be able to park/hide my ship somewhere safe while I'm logged off?

My finger is hovering over the purchase button, so TIA for any info. :)

There's only one meta server/system with persistent universe, and yeah, all your stuff stays with you.

b) Will there be 24/7 servers on which I would be able to park/hide my ship somewhere safe while I'm logged off?

Meta server will be 24/7. When you will log off it will save your position. edit: yeah, logging off during battle is not yet worked out, there will be some limitations. But if you somewhere safe there should be no problem.

this isn't Eve'esk, where if you log out of the game and someone comes along and takes over the station then you can't get your ship out without risking ganking.......

a) There will be only one universe for all, something like EVE Online.
The interaction between players will happen inside instances based peer-to-peer model, the server will only be used to make the initial connection possible.

b)We don't exactly know yet what will happen with our ships after we log out.
At the moment they just disappear.

Well to answer your questions properly when it comes to MP there is only one server (P2P based) the server runs the background simulation and is (as far as I know) always running, except for updates I guess... you will always be able to park your ship somewhere safe ..

Also, something to remember is the the game is in the Testing phases and isn't anywhere near complete yet, so if you do buy now, expect bug's, crashes, Game resets (setting your progress back to zero) and limitations on gameplay ... but also expect a great game :)

It's a game with spaceships in it, what can go wrong? :D

Thanks guys, sounds good.

"What can go wrong"...only things I can think of are the game not being finacially successful and the plug being pulled on the master server, and cheats/hackers running amok.
I kind of think the first won't be an issue and the second will be dealt with by strong repercussions for anyone caught being naughty. Like having their online account permanently banned. We can but dream. :)

Yeah...£100...eek. :eek: But the allure of setting off into the unknown with a mining ship and sitting back with a mug of java while I strip an asteroid of gold...lol. "Wife! Hide the card!" :D

It includes all major expansions. Not sure how long the pass will be available in the store if you were thinking about buying Standard Beta or just the game, though.

All major expansion btw means that all other expansions (not major) are free anyway. So yep, foreva and evah..C:

Premium beta essentially is

1. Access to all remaining development phases of the game, starting at 30th May (£30)
2. Game pre-order (£35)
3. Lifetime expansion pass (£35)

I don't think 3 will remain stocked for too long btw (I guess a couple of months)...they are losing money having it in the store.
