Newcomer / Intro Hi vets! What was I doing??

Greetings again cmdr's! Steam says I was last online April 2021. Between age and too much new information being stored over the years, I've completely forgotten everything about this game. I installed it on a new PC (so no 3rd party connections, no bindings, nothing...) and booted it up. I found a binding layout for my hotas, purchased some ARK and a Mandalay, went through some on-foot training and then went back through the first tutorial and logged out.

Then went looking for resources. EDDB is gone ... hmm. EDMC rings a bell. Reset forgotten passwords for this forum and Inara; bookmark Coriolis again. And now I have no idea what I was doing, nor whether I should still do that thing. This is where any of you with these situations ingrained in your better-serving-than-mine memory may be able to help out...

What I know for sure is the following: I spawned in Tani Hub (Starport Coriolis) in Ainunnicori sitting in a Phantam with (2) 4 wheelers in the bay. According to Inara's last contact with the missing cmdr, I had invited Martuuk, discovered Ishmaak, and gained access to Farseer grade 4. I'm guessing I was grinding the Farseer to engineer something but no idea what. lol. I see that the Krait has a 5A FSD (pre engineered) in it. I thought that I may have been working on an FSD, but what I see recommended now is just start with a SCO anyway.

Anyone have any idea what was going on with my account? My cmdr page on Inara is the same name as here. I know I could take up the torch and just head out and do whatever I want. But, I would like to know if what I was doing was completed and if not, complete it now if it's worth it. Appreciate any insight with this and excited to be back!

Bummer. That (unless you got your old drive somewhere) rules out the usual approach, i.e. check your (local) CMDR logs. Preferrably by installing something like EDDiscovery (I'd hate to have to slog through severl kB of XML/JSON files manually..).

From my POV, though:
  • any missions you might have had have expired by now
  • there has been at least one major update (Odyssey) since April 2021 (although... why do you have on-foot gameplay if you left before the Odyssey release?), and the PowerPlay update just last week
  • any outstanding in-game debts and benefits should be listed on your left hand HUD
  • for exploration and exo-bio (again, Odyssey?) payouts, yo might want to check in with Cartographics and Genomics just in case there's still something pending
  • otherwise, there doesn't seem to be anything to stop you from simply forgetting about what you have been doing and just reset your CMDR and start over.

Regarding your question of what you have been doing: from your description, you were in the process of ranking up with Felicity in order to get access to her G5 FSD upgrades.

And EDDB has basically been replaced (for the most part) by Inara. I would have preferred the old EDDB UI, but not to the extent to volunteer to take over the project.

Hi! Thanks for the memory jogging. Your guess is most likely correct. I was probably grinding G5. But your first comment seems to have helped. I actually did have a disk image from that pc on a drive. I restored it to an old laptop and manually copied the old log files off. Apparently they changed (netlog to journal) but after installing EDDiscovery and using the "read 2.1 and former" it pulled... some of it in. All I see is a description of "Jump to xxxxsystem" (ie: Jump to HIP 13291 etc.) and no "Information." I went ahead and sync'd the data to EDSM and Inara. I could continue looking through all that for more, but I'm just going to get back into it. I stored the pre-eng 5a fsd, purchased and equiped a 5a fsd sco (leaving enough for rebuy) and headed off. (Straight to jail actually, since I didn't know how to holster my weapon while walking around bwahaha)

I did get the Odyssey expansion from Steam when it launched. I just never got to play it. This latest install/update brought the full "live" odyssey game up to speed which is what triggered the on-foot tutorial when starting out.

As of tonight, I've got EDDisco, EDMC, EDHM UI, Elite Observatory and TCEmkII installed and linked/updated now. Time to brush up on how not to shoot past destinations while taking hull damage dropping out too quickly. Oh, all the things I've forgotten. Again, I appreciate it! Maybe I'll finish getting G5 on that other one in the future.

Another suggestion : buy an Artemis suit so you can do Exobiology (lots of cash earned), and get BioInsights to go with Elite Observatory. Then you can easily -and quickly- afford all sorts of things.

I would honestly just re-learn by doing it again, unless you would be throwing away literally billions - so much has changed since then - and it'll be great fun. I was going to say that anyway, but then this caught my eye:

If that is correct then there are THREE major disruptions to that so you really are better off just engaging with the whole thing here in 3310:

  • SCO drives completely change the relationship with FSD upgrades
  • Whatever reason you were interested in FSD range, there's a new ship where you'll have to evaluate upgrading to that
  • PP 2.0 has UTTERLY changed how you rank up with Felicity (or anyone else - there are 12 Powers now)

Thanks! Been researching this "new" exobio stuff and flying around the cosmos looking for a g2/g3 artemis. No luck so far, but following the sharing/caring thread.

Don't really need a G2 or G3 suit. I used the basic version for many months and made many billions - no trouble.
That's good to know. After 42 jumps a G1 was all that was left there anyway. I'll pick it up and get to work. Appreciate it.

I was most likely outfitting this Krait for exp. So, I'll eventually finish upgrading it to G5 for completion sake, but for now will likely focus more on outfitting the Mandalay. Thanks

Get Mass Manager experimental effect put on your Frame Shift Drive, by Farseer or another drive engineer. It will usefully extend your jump range by quite a bit. When possible get the Guardian blueprint for modules so you can get a FSD booster for an extra up to 10 light years, too. This will speed up everything you travel to do, later on.

Thanks! I'll do that
