HID Tools

I stumbled on a great thread a few weeks ago and I can’t relocate it. It had a list of excellent Windows HID (human input device) tools.

I use aussiedroids epic warthog script and a DualShock4 controller. Since ED doesn’t yet support DualShock4 native icons I use Steam to mimic an Xbox controller, and the dance I must do to get everything correct is mind numbing. I think if I could reliably name the controller, with a hid tool (presumably) would help greatly.

So what useful joystick/controller/hid tools have you run across?

Well honestly I’ve got it down pretty good, but that doesn’t mean it will always work. Here are the steps.

1. Disconnect DS4
2. In steam big picture uncheck ds4 support
3. Also in big picture, uncheck (disable) steam overlay
4. Connect/reconnect DS4
5. Recheck both 2 and 3 above.
6. Run aussiedroids target script
7. Launch ED

If it didn’t work I’ll get that dreaded “unable to locate hid device” message in the bindings folder error log.

So it was the figuring this out and the fear something will again change that prompted this thread. It probably took me 3 or 4 hours over the course of a week to figure this out...but that was time I wanted to be playing, instead of fiddling with settings that made it so irritating.
