Just two questions.

1) Has anyone seen this before?

2) Any idea what it is or may mean?

Just an empty in game message with the heading: 'Hidden Contact" with no text. It showed up shortly (a few minutes) after the Parun CG finished and I became friendly with the Federation faction in that system.

I'm stumped here. No idea what it could be, as I've never seen a message quite like this before.

I believe I received that message once recently when taking a second imperial ranking mission. I auto failed the first one, received a message from "hidden contact" and had a similar vague message in the transactions tab.

Doesn't sound like our situations are very similar though.

When you do Illegal Missions by non criminal Factions, rather than the Faction Rep, you get updates from "Unknown Contact"

Might be an on the fly mission offer, but the lack of text also suggested it is bugged

The skull Icon suggests it is a Piracy Mission

This one. A few people have reported buggy mission updates with "empty" messages... "Hidden Contact" is normal for piracy/assassination/other illegal missions.

I've just had one after dropping off a diverted delivery, although it was the original delivery contact (ie mission giver) who diverted it.

Now then, straight after I dropped off the last delivery I took another. Then I got the hidden contact message. This new one seems bugged, it's in the transactions tab as failed and nothing in my inventory.

I got an insta-fail Imperial DONATE mission ...

with 625mill in the bank

with this hidden contact message.

i just had it, first a msg from a secret contact, which appear empty, then a failed msg for a secret mission, with... nothing inside !

I saw it just the other day. I think it's a bug. It might have happened when a mission I just grabbed insta-failed. It came in place of the "we don't tolerate this kind of failure, commander" message that normally follows a failed mission.

Yep, that's the NPC who Auto-Fails your missions.
He or She even Auto-failed me a Donate 450,000 Cr mission once.

I believe there is a multi-million credit bounty for the confirmed kill of Hidden Contact.

Not very well hidden is it! I spotted it straight away!

I had this one thrice in a row while trying to apply to scan mission contracts and data delivery. These are missions I am well used to aplly to so there were not illegal . The missions auto failed in every cases but when abandoning them I had no rep loss.

Meanwhile , i noticed that going to the tab of another faction updated the mission board and returning to the "hidden contact" faction board,those were still there.

I suspect this occur when there is a kind of server issue while renewing the mission board , as if these missions should have been wiped and cleared for new ones to appear but not. Some kind of "ghost missions".

When the board had fully updated , I hadn't those auto failed missions anymore.
