i don't park ships in systems requiring permits (can lose the permit and then it would be stuck there) and have 2 ships parked in different locations. but, on the galaxy map, i have a third ship icon on achenar. i didn't park a ship there and there is no ship icon on the achenar system map. should i be checking every station there for a hidden surprise or is this a bug in the galaxy map?

Can you actually lose a system permit? How, by falling into disfavor with the faction that gave it to you?

I bought a second ship at LTT 7421 and the map showed my second ship stored at Ross 720, next door.

Yeah had wandering ship syndrome a couple times. Most annoying one was when i swapped ships in one station to upgrade some gear, then without leaving the station i went to swap back, only to find that the game thought my original ship was now in another system 30 lys away. Went over there, just to check, only to find zero population, zero bodies, zero stations (adv disc scanner confirmed).

haven't tested it but based on old conversations on the topic, you can. a faction won't extend a permit to their home world if you turn hostile towards them.
thanks for the confirmation commanders, it does seem to be a bug. the only surprise ship i am expecting is the new ones promised to beta backers but the achenar icon seems to refer to my cobra which is parked somewhere else.
btw, as a warning to others that might end up in this situation, it is not just the galaxy map, shipyards show the wrong location for the ship as well so it is best to write down where you actually parked the ship on a piece of paper :/
