High Density Composites - WHERE AND HOW?

How can I obtain these? It says military and authority ships hold them but shooting would surely give me a bounty(and perhaps wipped out)? I spent a few hours in anarchy system at a nav point shooting all ships and collecting all the mats and not once did I collect High Density Composite. I could go to a trader but I'd rather collect them but I may need some of those mats.

It also says you can get them from signal sources. What type? I have almost everything I need for a missile upgrade

Salvage from signal sources in low security systems according to elite wiki. Or trade with materials on hand.

IIRC it is high grade signal sources.

Go to a system with Federation factions, check out high grade signals for Core Dynamics composites and trade them down at a material trader for high density composites.

Combat zones with federation ships.

Go in with collector limpets. Choose a side where you are fighting federation. Make the kills, grab the materials, you'll soon be swarming in the stuff.

Go for ships on the edge of combat, otherwise enemy PDTs will take down your collectors, or just scoop manually if you are up for that. Take plenty of limpets, PDTs will destroy them as soon as you go back into the fray.

They are a grade 3 material, so encoded USS are a common source. Alternatively, high grade USS in Federal space often yield Core Dynamics Composites (G5), which can be traded down (1 for 9 I think) at a mat trader.

Federal Corvettes usually drop these when destroyed. Assassination missions for Pirate Lords in Federation space are an option if you're comfortable taking on big game.

Thank you guys, I'm going search for some high grade signals to see if I can collect. If not, I'll use the trader, though i was hoping it won't come to that. :)

Set your sensors to ignore 1-2-3 grade mats, collect 4-5 only and trade them down (that means less collecting, you don't even need limpets).
As for High Density Composites go to federation system and find high grade emission signal sources: most likely they will contain proprietary and core dynamics composites use them to trade down.

the info you read was telling you more what kind of ships may have them

sounds like you are new to material gathering

the jist, besides finding them un USS's
is when you kill certain ships, these may or may not be part of the stuff that falls from their remains for you to collect.

many of the manufactured items can be obtained by destroying ships that use them to be built or engineered.

there are several threads in the forum to help you find materials.
and as another mentioned, visit a material trader, 3 types. raw, manufactured, encoded
so, 3 different material traders for that.
once you visit one, you will get a bit better idea what to do next

Dav's Hope is awash with the stuff

But a Mat Trader could be your friend

P.S. I have never seen these in a HGE - they are only G3 material. Core Dynamic and Proprietary are the HGE composites

Dav's hope is not remotely as fast as collecting G5's and trading down.

We could argue about this but: One run around Dav's Hope typically produces 3 instances of the stuff - that is 9 high density composites - so that is one Core Dynamic's worth of trading. Now I totally agree that trading is the best way to get high density composites - but, and here is the nub, you don't just get high density composites on the run. So if you are just specifically short of high density composites, sure go trade for it. However, if you are also looking to build up other stuff like CM and RXtals etc then why not spend a little while in Horizons at Dav's Hope.

It is interesting to note that you focus only on my comment about Dav's and ignore my "But a Mat Trader could be your friend". Still, it lets you have a dig and so brightens up your day a bit. You are welcome. ;)

I actually refilled my HD comps just by popping into Encodeds when travelling doing Ody stuff. Spent some making a cold DBX to check out Proteus. In fact, got back most of the stuff I spent just by selectively doing certain stuff while travelling for Ody. Even recovered a few raws by cutting those mat containers at a few IRs.

Degraded and Encoded in occupied systems give grades 1 to 4 mats, unoccupied systems only give grade 1 and 2 mats.

Scan any private data beacons as well, you can get the occasional Datamined Wake Exceptions and other high grade emissions.

If you use your to scan a system to find signal sources, you can then just drop back into it to see if any new ones have appeared.
