High end video card like Titan Black - Framerate

Anyone running the latest Alpha using a high end video card like a GTX Titan Black 6GB? If yes, what frame rates are you getting in high resolutions (up to 4k)?

Trying to decide how "high end" I need to go for 4k Elite:) Or if it's just going to be way to expensive and I should just forget about it...

My current system has 16GB memory, a solid state SSD with Geforce GT 640M and is getting rubbish framerates even running at extremely low resolutions like 1200 by 800. Using Alpha 1.1 I'm getting a maximum of 30fps, but usually around 20fps or lower...

You could get a 780 Ti with 3GB vram, it's the exact same performance. I have one and it runs godly nice in 2560x1440 for me!

The game is not that demanding in terms of GPUs. Also take into account that the game is not optimized yet. Also GTX 780ti is much cheaper than GTX Titan Black and offers the same performance. 6GB versions of 780ti should be released soon.

If OR DK2 is as the devs say close to the release candidate for hardware then there should be no need to buy it again...

I couldn't quite stretch to a Ti so went with a GTX780 Classified (birthday gift to myself) which will come close to a Ti... I get around 80 to 90Fps in game at 1080p with 300fps on the system taxing spinning orange ship...

I had the cash this week to get a second one and go SLI... But right now I don't need it... Apparently bills are more important the some extra graphics horsepower... The game so far runs and looks great on what I have... Even on a second gen i7 2600 it doesn't break a sweat

Believe me, in ED this rule is important :

CPU > GPU

I have a AMD Phenom II x6/2,6Ghz and a ATI Radeo 5800. In Alpha 1.1 i have 30 - 60+ FPS, max Details in 1920 x 1080. GPU Demand : 90-100%, CPU 30%

But when i fly the "Factions" Mission i have only 20 - 25 fps. Then my GPU is bored, about 40% Demand while my CPU is struggeling. In this case the CPU is the bottleneck.

They've gone from saying that way back before it was official to now saying that CV1 will be better in every way. I'm still getting the DK2 but I think CV1 will be a fair degree better.

i7 2600 is still a great CPU. Personally I have 2600k and I think that upgrade to 4770k is not worth it as it does not have particular advantage in games.

I have created a thread this week regarding performance:
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=15588

High end GPUs in SLI do not add much to the performance now, especially as the game is not optimized yet.

As for OR, currently there are rumors that CV version will have better resolution and some other technical specs in comparison to DK2, that is why I am not going to rush with it now.

Yeah I can see no benefit other than power efficiency of going to the 4770k which is not enough to justify the outlay for a CPU, motherboard and some faster DDR 3. My 2600 will be good for a long while yet.

Great thread you created btw was a very interesting read

Just upgraded, using a i7-2600k OC to 4,3GH
running in 2560x1440 all maxed out and FXAA
My previous card a GTX 670 ti Gave 67-69 fps in alpha 1 mission 1 start.
The new card a GTX 780ti is giving 120 fps same settings and same mission.
Almost a doubling in framerate. still on the same CPU.

Am considering also upgrading the CPU from i7-2600k to a i7-4930k
will be funny to see what difference that will make.

the reason for the upgrade ? have ordered a oculus rift DK2 and want max framerate
to make it a pleasent experience.

It will be very funny when there will be no difference at all.

2600k and GTX Titan GTX Titan:
Start Faction - 185-190fps
During the fight 70-90fps

My Hardware:
4930k @ 3,8GHz HT on
780Ti @ 1124 MHz Ingame
16GB RAM
Software on SSDs (Win/Software)

Start Faction - 185-190fps
Anaconda arrive - 85-90 fps
Same fps over a long distance
at a short distance to the fight - 60-70 fps

GPU-utilization: 67-82%
CPU-utilization: of the 12 cores use 6 75%, 4 50%, 2 5%

I hope it helps

I doubt you'll be able to notice any difference. The i7 2600 is still one of the best gaming CPUs out there. ;)

Yes very helpful thanks.
Although not the same mission as i tested in, but same hardware as i plan,
seems to give 185+ish. still a massive jump from about 120.

A bit of a crasy upgrade i know, but i've always went for the almost top end PC hardware.
Not married so i have enough cash to throw at it. lol

Well, in fact I have given a link to a thread, where we have discussed performance in Factions scenario on different rigs. According to gathered information there is no performance difference between 2600K and 4930K.
Also I do not see any sense in upgrading 2600K to 4930K now, as x79 is almost dead and x99 release is within a few months.

Hi bowman
Did you make sure you are actually running on the Nvidia chip?
My gaming laptop was using the integrated Intel HD chip by default until I told it in Nvidia system setting to always use the gtx.
Suddenly I could play on high settings in 1920x1080 with 40 FPS avg.

hey guys...

Titan black here is at 1000 € ... o_O

beautiful but damn expensive...

You have also the Titan Z for € 3,000
