High hopes for C&P

I'm mining away in my Cutter. Poof, my game crashed, it does this quite regularly while mining, always has. I'd only mined a couple of roids, so I wasn't too worried that the inevitable pirate spawn would be too greedy.
Sure enough, 3 ships turn up and scan. They only wanted 4,500cr, so I dropped a ton of praesowhatsis. I'd just prospected a roid with platinum, so I wasn't running. (or fighting with 4 hardpoints using mining lasers)
The pirate said "All mine", Fine I thought and turned to the roid.
Then the pirate said "You chose death then" Huh? and 3 ships start shooting at me.
I thought I'd at least strip the roid before I ran, Cutter shields and all. But next I saw the message "Bounty incurred" Huh?
Next message I saw was from security "Emergency response squad I position. "Rapid deployment unit deployed.
I'd lost a ring of shields now, so I though I'd better leave.
While boosting away, I noticed I was wanted. Huh?

I've only been firing at rocks, with mining lasers.

Yep. I've got great hopes for C&P.

I don't get what you are saying. Most of the mining bugs have been around for years.

All I know is I got a bounty for shooting a rock. No cops were present at the time.

Cops can have scan and weapons in the same group; so they will shoot when scanning. Ergo you may not even have been aware you were shot at; the confusing thing would be if you have no turrets..

Also C&P isn’t designed to improve the situation, merely punish. So, possibly working as intended.

If I'm reading OP's post correctly, the cops hadn't actually arrived, he just got the message that they were on their way.

Bah! That sucks. Some of the bugs really are a pain to live with...

Ok, but the 40 second warning is issued when a crime has already been committed. So there’s something a bit odd happening, or it was a crime registered without the commander realising.

Smells buggy to me...if the only objects in your instance are (a) pirates that are shooting at you, and (b) rocks, then you shouldn't be able to gain a WANTED status. Well, I'd have thought anyway.

It sounds as potential misfire without scanning. Is it possible that OP grazed one of ships while swinging around.
